Summer- MM

(Org post date 6-08)
Summer to me is:

Let me just say that I loved this meme....
With all this talk of summer, I cannot help but break out into song...this one from 1972....sing along if ya know it....
See the curtains hangin' in the window, in the evenin' on a Friday night.
A little light a-shinin' through the window, lets me know everything is alright.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
See the paper layin' in the sidewalk, a little music from the house next door.
So I walked on up to the doorstep, through the screen and across the floor.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Sweet days of summer, the jasmine's in bloom. July is dressed up and playing her tune.
And I come home from a hard day's work, and you're waiting there, not a care in the world.
See the smile a-waitin' in the kitchen, food cookin' and the plates for two.
See the arms that reach out to hold me, in the evening when the day is through.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.

Big Daddy n Me

The Husband MeMe
Today is Friday! I thought I would have a little fun today. Georgie recently had this on her blog. I thought it was cute.
The hubby meme with a twist... I answered the questions first. After I answered, I asked Big Daddy the question. Let's see how we did....

1. What is something your husband always says to you?
Love You Babe!
Big Daddy's answer- "Love you, babe!"
Yes, he is good like that.

2. What makes your husband happy?
An organized home, $$ in the bank accounts, World of Warcraft/computer game time, frugal spending, a good meal
Big Daddy's answer-"food"
I guess it is true what they say about a man....the fastest way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

3. What makes your husband sad?
Unorganization. The stock market these days.
Big Daddy's answer-"Sunday nights/Monday's"
True. He is happy to have a job, but dreams of retirement.

4. What was your husband like as a teen?
He had eyes that smiled. A laugh that was infectious, much like he is today. Though back then he enjoyed being around people, going to parties, social things. That he hates today. He is not a social butterfly. He was on the wrestling team and loved to wrestle. Worked hard at it.
Big Daddy's answer-"fun and exciting."
LOL! What modesty!

5. How old is your husband ?
38, same as me. We went to school together from sixth grade onto high school graduation
Big Daddy's answer-"38"
I couldn't miss this, we graduated together and our birthday's are only a month apart.

6. What is his favorite thing to do?
computer or read books, watch movies, family time, eat
Big Daddy's answer-"play computer"
There was a reason I put it at numbero uno....look at me, indulging myself with dillusions of family. LOL! He has his priorities.....

8. What does your hubby do when you're not around?
the same thing he does when I am around. He loves his computer games. Nerd.
Big Daddy's answer-"play computer"
Um, hmm. Nerd.

9. If your husband becomes famous, what will it be for?
Creating his own computer game. Or for a creating websites, computer forensics, etc. A great data processing form on som ecopany website? LOL. Something related. Maybe for that great baseball card he has held onto thinking it would pay our house note. LOL. I say for being a great Big Daddy.
Big Daddy's answer-"playing computer"
Yes, there IS a definante trend here.

10. What is your husband really good at?
Computers. Organization. He is extremely smart. Wrestling. Making me laugh. Irritating me with great intention.
Big Daddy's answer-"playing computer"
See what I mean?

11. What is your husband not very good at?
Carpentry (boo hoo), completing task that I ask of him (timely), mechanics of a automobile, painting
Big Daddy's answer-"fixing stuff around the house"
Darn tootin! Is it wrong to fantasize of Big Daddy and a toolbelt?

12. What does your husband do for a job?
He is a computer dude.
Big Daddy's answer-"computer programmer"
At least it pays the bills. I always say, do what you love, love what you do.

13. What is your husbands favorite food?
Gumbo, Prime Rib, Steak, Roast Beef, Stroganoff, Beef Tips and Rice,
Big Daddy's answer-"chinese"
I was way off. I knew this answer like I know my name. He HAS to have it at least once a week.

14. What makes you proud of your husband?
That he is such a hard worker-never complains that I don't have a full time job and actually enjoys spending time with his family
Big Daddy's answer-"paying the bills."
True. I don't want to be homeless.

15. If your husband were a cartoon character, who would he be?
Fred Flinstone. And he kinda looks like him too. Smile.
Big Daddy's answer-"Foghorn Leghorn"
I can see that, but I would say he is more of a Fred Flinestone.
If you decide to play along, let me know so that I can swing by and see how you did.

Birds on Holiday

Susan, at Between Naps on the Porch, suggested we give our Target bird salt and pepper shakers a holiday. The challenge was to follow the birds and capture them in environments, away from their usual element.

I was so happy to see the birds on holiday arrive at my home in Helena. I looked outside and saw them perched on my deck.

I opened my window and in they flew. They were in town visiting friends. Their first stop was with their very close Mrs. Sally Loudermilk Chicadee

Mrs. Sally had great news....she was exciting a new arrival anyday.
They enjoyed the visit with Mrs. Sally and soon left so that she could tend to her nest.
From Mrs. Sally's home, they stopped in for the Easter service at church.
It was a wonderful service! They sang and sang in praise.
Following church, it was off to see Mrs. Charolett Ann, a longtime friend.Charlotte was surprised at their visit.
She was eager to catch up on the gossip who's tail feathers were recently tufted and who was had flown the coop.
"Really? You don't say?"
That Charlotte loves to be in the know.
Soon enough, it was off to the garden home of Eloise and Ted Robiner
There they dined on a feast of juicy worms and sunflower seeds. Soon enough, it was time to move on and pay visits to other places. It was then that they landed briefly on the window seal before that bid ado and were off to other exciting places...on holiday.
To see other stops, drop by Susan, at Between Naps on the Porch. From there you can follow the birds to other (more exciting) places.
My contribution for Outdoor Wednesday is this little turtle seen below. He was sunning himself on a log in my friend, Diva's pond.

Irish Bits and a Q&A

Happy St Patrick's Day! This is a big day of celebration for Peg, who is Big Daddy's grandmother. A true and proud Irish woman. To read more about Peg, read The celebration of Peg's spirit. A post about the spirit and the disease that robs one of self. My hats off to the Irish and to Peg. Also, in light of St Pats Day, be sure to visit my recipe blog for some Irish Grub. Finally, my Thrifty Thursday?Tablescape post will also be in the spirit of the Irish, so join me for that!

I asked if anyone had any questions for me, after being inspired by Mari's post on the same premise. (Thanks Mari!) Below are some questions answered. If you have not had a chance to propose a question, it is never to late! Leave your question in the comment box.
And thank you for asking!

Mari said...
Here is my question:I'm amazed by the great deals you get thrift shopping, because I never seem to do well. I'm wondering if this is something your family did when you were young or something you started when you got married. Also - how often do you try to hit the thrift stores?
Mari, Thanks for the inspiration to do this post! And thank you for your question! Interestingly enough, as a kid, I loved to go to garage and yard sales with my childhood friend and her mother. I think that is where the love of thrifting was seeded. As a teenager, I would go to the thrift store from time to time with friends and see what kind of "hippie" clothes we could come up with. It was cheap entertainment, I guess you could say. Antiquing was something that I have also always enjoyed to do. It has always been something my mother and I have done together. We once even had an antique business. I think antiquing and thrifting are a good marriage.
The thrifting just seemed to blossom, if you will, into the obsession that is it today. It's the thrill of the hunt. My trips to the thrift store vary, depending on kids after school activities, $$$ and the day of the week (I never go thrifting on Saturdays-it is to picked over and crowded) and if there is nothing good on TV in the evenings. Generally though, I will try and drop by my local thrift store about two-three times a week. It is very convenient to my house, which is a double edged sword.

I haven't gone back and read all of your blog, so I only know about the last 6 months of your life, so I'd like to know how you started your photography business. You can just direct me to a previous post if you'd like. I think you are quite gifted when it comes to your photography. I love looking at it.My husband and I have started and stopped a few million businesses and it always fascinates me how people get into things.
Kirby, the photography business grew from a hobby, that I was very passionate about. I can credit both Big Daddy and Oprah for the idea. And I credit my friends and family for a good dose of encouragement. I have always loved photography. I did a post on my obsession, that I had even as a child, right here. Later in life, my family and friends all knew that I was very passionate about it. They began asking me to photograph their families for Christmas cards, then it was annual photographs, parties, etc. My husband said, "You love it. People want your services, make a business from it." I saw a Oprah show one time in which she said, so many people hate their jobs. Her advice was to think about what you love to do in life...and make a career of it. I thought that was great advice. Finally, if you beleive in something, and are passionate-you canmake it work. Don't give up. Try and Try again. You should love and be passionate about what you do in life. You can read more about my photography by clicking here as well as here.

I'm new to your blog but enjoy it very much. I'll definitely be back! Ignore my question if you've already blogged it (maybe just direct me to the post that answers it?) but how did you and Big Daddy meet?
Hi Kim!Thanks for the kind compliment. I really appreciate it. I first laid eyes on Big Daddy when I was 11 years old. From that moment on, I was smitten-and still am. You can read the entire mushy love story right here.

Bama Belle said...
How fun! OK question for you....Where were you born?
Thnks Mzzz Belle, for the question. I was born in Birmingham Alabama, at the hospital that once was Montclair. Now it is Princeton.

Keetha said...
I do have a question for you:"How long have you enjoyed a pole in your bedroom, and would you recommend it to the rest of us?" (In reference to this post)
Dear Keetha, Now surely you jest? A pole certainly isn't practical for a bedroom. It would be a nightmare to decorate aROUND.

Finally, I have had many of you comment that you were not aware that I had other blogs. You can find all of my blogs listed on my profile, as well as on my sidebar on the right, not far from the top of the page.
Still can't find them, here is the short list:
Plates & Places-recipes and the stories behind them
Photographic Memories-My Photography Blog
Smug Mug-a collection of my Photographs for purchase
Baby Gone SHoppin-My online garage sale
Photography Web site- though mostly outdated o such things as pricing, you can still get a jest for my photography.

Thanks again, for the questions. If you have additional questions, leave them in the comment box. I heart y'all!

The Letter R , How Do I Love Thee...

....Let me Count the ways
Tales of Bloggeritaville is brought to you today by the Letter "R".

The delightful Dust Bunny Hostage recently assigned me a letter to correspond with things that I like/love. I got the letter "R". Which I quickly had issues with. I was hard for some reason....and then it came. Many R's that I love.

Resurrection/My Redeemer- For God so loved the world that he gave his only son. My redeemer lives. Enough said.

Really good friends. I have some really great friends actually. We are a unique bunch. We are magnolias, we are pigeons, we are the "clematis club". Our relationships cannot be explained, but rather understood. It is understood, we are always there for one another. A friend is one who knows us, but loves us anyway. It's a true statement. Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same. Really good friends, I cannot imagine my life without mine.

I love you each and every one! Real life friends and friends that I have made in the blog world on my little island in the middle of it, "Bloggeritaville"- you are all special in my heart. Footprints.
Thank you for your friendship.

Rum. It makes a great pina colada. Mine and Big Daddy's weekend drink.

Readers Comments. It is such a joy to have a kind word in my inbox.

Reading. I used to read books, now I read blogs. I love both. I have made met and made some wonderful friends through blogs. And books, transport me, educate, and induce thoughts and conversations.

Rock and Roll. You saw that one coming didn't you? I LOVE music of many kinds, but there is a very special place in my heart for some Rock and Roll.
Rest- I love to be cuddled up in my own bed. One of my favorite spots, certainly.
Relaxation. I find that at the beach....among other places, but the beach is where I am "at home" in my heart. It is where I feel closest to God.
Rod and Reel- I love to fish. Love it! I long for the day I can live at the beach and literally catch supper. Rod and reel kinda go with the rest and relaxation thing.

Re-Decorating. I am constantly moving things around in my home.
And finally, and it is big.......
Roller Skating.
Amen.
It's the killer 70's music, it's flying around the rink with the wind in your hair, it is being able to finally find one thing that you can do that your kids can't and impress them (back skate!), it is the pompom on the skates, it is the laughter and the smiles, It is going really fast (without being a conscience effort) each time you hear Wipe Out. It is joy! Love some roller skating.....and hey! It is a great and fun workout!
I want to thank everyone that participated in Thrify Thursday this week! It was alot of fun. I enjoyed seeing all of your thrifty finds and cool ideas. I tried to respond to everyones comments, but if there were any late entries...I may not have yet... But I will. Promise! I look forward to next week's Thrifty Thursday.
Want to play the letter game? If so, let me know in your comment and I'll assign you a letter. Thanks for stopping by Bloggeritaville! You rock!
