Treasure (Ship) Unearthed

My good friend Sharon (from Alabama's Gulf Coast) sent me pictures of a ship that was uncovered by Hurricane Ike.

It's is believed to be a Union ship burned by our brethren at Ft. Morgan during the war of norther aggression.

The ship is about 150 feet and about 6 miles east of Ft.Morgan. Sadly,If someone does not do something soon the sea will reclaim her. Hopefully some history buff will come forward to claim her.

She is constructed from yellow pine and it appeared her hull was put together with pegs.

We think she had a steam engine .....there was alot of iron nail and spikes and pipe inside.

The ship was burned to the water line. It's a mystery ship, no one know it's name, the storm just left it's bones on the beach but it will be gone soon.

I love a treasure, and this one certainly is.

Remember my Hurricane Katrina story, of the "Message in a Bottle" that Katrina uncovered some twenty years later.
Funny how nature never forgets a good tale. Sometimes, she holds all the secrets, waiting for the perfect time to spin her tale. I hope someone can determine more of this most interesting tale.

Wow, that is amazing! Just think about all the storms that have been down there and this finally was unearthed by Ike.

There will be history buff all over it, I bet!

Totally cool. I've ever seen a ship like that before. It is amazing what is below the sea.

I had never heard about the Message in a Bottle either, so I'm glad you linked to it :)

Hope you had a great weekend!

Tammy & Kirby- I am so excited abotu this ship. Totally amazing how something in such destruction could be washed up in a Hurricane and gently laid out for the world to see. Absolutley amazing! I wish gas wasn't so high, I'd be on my way down to see it. Tammy-I can only hope that someone will and QUICK before the tide claims her.

Jen*Dust Bunny*-head on over and see it for yourself.

Kirby-Glad you liked the Message in a Bottle story. I would still like to find the author of the project and get her in touch with the marines who wanted to deliver her project back to her.

In June 2008, a 90-pound unspent Union naval shell was uncovered at the site. Remember that?

We'd have won that war, if we would have had a better Navy.

A lot of "The South's Always Right" types will grimace when I say this but...

JEFF DAVIS WAS A LOUSY PRESIDENT!

The truth is General Lee detested him and his failure to fund a Navy gave the Yankees a huge edge.

WOW! I was having a conversation today with a lady about the beach at Fort Morgan. She said you could find MUCH better shells and sea treasures there. I guess she is right!

Dear Troll,

I know I am one of those detestable Yankees - - -

In retrospect, did you really want to WIN that war? Do you think our country should be split apart?

I'm glad we're ALL still in this thing together. For richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, till death do us part.

I love ALL of The UNITED States of America.
