Anticipating Spring with Numbered Pots

What is with this weather? Yesterday was a typical "Blustery Day" round my parts, reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh and his Blustery Day. It got me to day dreaming of warmer temperatures, blue skies, sunny days, bumble bees and wonderful potted plants to enjoy while I sat on my deck taking in all the love from mother nature".

Then, I recalled a photo I took of some pots on a recent trip to The Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
It was something I wanted to recreate anticipating spring's arrival. It may be awhile....but in the meantime, check out these wonderful numbered pots for inspiration.....

I saw these numbered pots at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and love the look! I think it will be very easy to recreate, using either some galvanized luggage tags or even even paining the number directly on the pot.

These from Farmhouse Wares look identical, but for $79...not!

I always loved the pots that Lisa at created for a Thrifty Thursday..about a year ago, but they made such an impression it stuck with me, as does many of the things Lisa does...

That Lisa,of Pickles and Cheese, always the creative one!!

So, if you too find yourself taking refuge indoors dreaming of spring, Create! And prepare!
You'll have one of the nicest patio's when your spring fever breaks.

"Architectural Salvaged" Pieces finding their way to Retail

I am sure by now, if you are on the subscription list, that you have gotten your Pottery Barn catalog. You know I love thumbing through, getting ideas. This month I saw several that I already have by way of thrifting. And mine came with almost free or free price tag!

Here is the PB versions:

Architectural Wood Pillar Holders-Incorporating the capitals and bases of classical columns $29.00 – $99.00  MIne.

Architectural Relic- Hand carved to resemble a corner bracket that braced the facade of a turn-of-the-century building, this relic brings a stately, architectural element to interior walls, with a distressed finish and whitewash to keep the look authentic. $99.00

Pressed Tin Mirror-Intricately detailed pressed-tin tiles once lined the ceilings of countless residences across America in the mid-nineteenth century. Our mirror pays homage to that architectural tradition with embossed metal sheets pressed onto thick wood. $299.00 .Mine.

Architectural Fragment Wall Art, Set of 2 $299.00 These decorative architectural fragments were created to look like pieces of an ornately carved storefront rescued from a 150-year-old building. Mine.Mine.

Architectural Salvage Lamp Bases-After spotting a collection of antique balusters and finials at an architectural salvage shop, our designer created a new lighting collection with unparalleled character. Crafted by hand and then distressed one at a time, each lamp has all the stylish presence you’d expect from something originally designed to bring a creative flourish to the interior of a grand home. $100.00 – $200.00.

I cannot wait to show you my finished version! Stay tuned for Thrifty Thursday this week......

PB Prop Collection - 5' Rustic Ladder $179.00 Decorated with natural objects, festive garlands and hints of seasonal sparkle, our rustic ladder makes a dramatically warm statement during the holidays.

Mine was a free roadside find....in someone's trash pile!

SO look around, you can find these items at salvage places...or  around your home...
...or someone else's trash ;0 !!!!

Thrifty Thursday is almost 2 years in the making, exactly.
The first Thrifty Thursday took place on Thursday, February 12, 2009.
How is that for timing?
But you know what I discovered in preparing for todays' post. That I am not only very unorganized and ADD aflicted, I also cannot add. Today is actually #101! I had two post numbered #31. Have mercy!

1. Though it isn't my *favorite* I must start with how It all began with this Natural Nativity handcrafted in Germany Christmas Pyramid. Perfect condition, it retails for $359-$700. The cost depends on the amount of tiers. Mine was marked $20.oo and found at the thrift.....but I also got 25% off of that price!

2. My thrifty bedding....

3. My Third TT post had a turnout of 10! And I invited everyone into my kitchen, decorated on a budget.

4. I love burlap!

5. One of my favorite things is to go thrifting with friends. In this post, I brought along some of my girlfriends from our "Clematis Club" for a thrift store treasure hunt.....and alot of laughs!

6. Who doesn't love Ms Mustard Seed? I was so appreciative of her guest post in giving advice for thrifting. Sound advice. Great advice! Thanks MMS! Click here to see her wonderful tips!

7. I love to move things around in my home. I get bored. But I still love my hallway, decorated on a budget!

8. Another of my favorite bloggers, Donna of Funky Junk guest posted with her bedrrom redo that still has me drooling. Donna, I love you and the magic you preformed in your bedroom. I am sure that didn't come out right. Anyway....

9.So many of you inspire me daily. And it was a combination of you that inspired me to make one of my all time most favorite projects....The sheet music wreath!

10. Flea Market Style, it comes from shopping thrifty. It gives an eceltic, collected look to ones home. Makes it more interesting. Here is some of my tips!

Outdoor Wednesday

Another Outdoor Wednesday.
Another trip to Guntersville.
I had told my friend, "High Mae" about the fun we had in Guntersville, as well as the bird presentation..."Lets take the kids and picnic!" She always has great ideas.
So Saturday....off we went.
We found a great place to picnic, right beside Lake Guntersville.

Where the sunlight playfully danced on the lapping water.

After our lunch, we hit the trails for a day of hiking.

It was a trail I had hiked before, but I made the mistake of parking at the wrong end of the trail. This way today, was a hike straight up the mountain. Oh, joy!

We did do some investigating along the way.....

Hmmm? Wonder what the story was there??
More hill.....

And yet the kids wanted to climb the rocks on hills.
There is not a game on Wii Fit to simulate this experience. :)
Even Sister Sledge needed a break.

After our hike, we went to the Raptor presentation. Each week (through the second weekend of Feb.) there is a new presenter with different birds of prey. Check the Park website for more info.

All of our children were excited to be able to hold this little screech owl.

Isn't that little owl just the cutest? So tiny....but what a big spooky voice!!!!
We also saw up close and personal....
The Red Tail Hawk.

The Barred Owl.

But the piece dela resistance was .......our nations symbol.
The Bald Eagle.
A very regal eagle. Check out those talons! As big as a man's hands!

Fierce! Nobel. Way cool.

Just....WOW!

After the presentation, we decided to allow the kids to explore around the lodge a bit...

The view is unbelievable. The lodge sits on top of the mountain.

Me and High Mae even got a picture together for posterity!

After the kids had explored to their hearts content, I had a surprise.
"Let's go "Deer Hunting"", where we are certain to see deer.
I don't think they believed me, until.....

We allowed the children to call in the deer....

Deer Whisperers, wouldn't you say?  Keep in mind, these are wild deer, not caged or fenced in, wild!

It was a WON-DEER-FUL day, the kids...both big and small had a blast!
