I am most delighted to have you join in..for it's YOU who makes it a "show and tell party". That's no lie or exaggeration, each week I visit Susan's porch and just long to be a guest at any of her tablescapes...especially those held on the porch.

Today's Thrifty Thursday is in the spirit of Christmas. I am sharing a bit of my Christmas decor, all of which is on a budget. The first item is a bit of a project. My mother made this angel about 30 years ago or better.
Photobucket
It is made using one cone shaped styrofoam, one ball shape styrofoam and a paper sack. She used watered down glue to shape the bag, just as you would paper macha.
Photobucket
She pleated the dress by folding the bag accordian style in the chest area.
Photobucket
Using a sharpie, she made the eyes and mouth. A paper doily for a collar.
Photobucket
She used straight pins to fasten the wings. The wings seem to be constructed using cardboard and then decoupoging the bag to the cardboard.
Photobucket
This would make a fun project to do with children during the holiday's.

My thrifty find is a nativity that I found at the thrift store last week. It was $3.88.
Photobucket
It came in a bag, so I couldn't tell much of what I was getting. All I could see was the stable, but very little of the pieces inside. I thought it would be nice for the kids to play with. When I got it home, I began unwrapping and was thrilled to find it was crafted in Italy and each individual piece is stamped on the bottom, "Italy".
Photobucket
I love the details in the faces and the animals (it came with only 2 animals-a camel and a donkey).
Photobucket
The bad thing....The set is missing 2 of the kings, Joseph (I am using a shepard as a stand in) and most importantly....the baby Jesus! I hope to find one at the dollar tree to use as a stand in. We cannot have a manger without the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes!
Photobucket
My Dad would say, "For $3.88 you got what you paid for." But for $3.88 I was still pleased. I just love nativites! And I am hopeful to perhaps pick up these pieces at the Dollar Tree.

Now, onto to Tablescape Thursday, which is hosted by Susan of Between Naps on the Porch.

Photobucket
This tablescape was photographed at Harmony Landing (I posted a slideshow yesterday if you missed it.)
I thought so beautiful, wintry and elegant in it's whites, browns, silver, browns and greens. I just love it.

These pics make me want to go to Harmony Landing even more than your last post did!! This must be a privately owned store, rather than a chain.?? Love your mother's angel, too. Happy Holidays!

And a very Merry Christmas to you, Leigh! How sweet to have your mom's paper angel. It must have so many memories attached to it. I've been keeping an eye out for nativity sets too at the thrift shops, but no luck. Yours is very pretty. The tablescape has given me some ideas for my January table. Thanks so much. Have a wonderful week!

Hello Leigh...

My friend, I just adore your sweet sack angel that your mother made...it's absolutely adorable! It really reminded my of the paper mache' work that my mother did about the same time frame. She made the three wisemen...each were about 20" tall and she used different fabrics like burlap and then painted painted them...they turned out gorgeous! It's funny...I hadn't thought about those for years! I also really enjoyed seeing your fabulous Italian nativity! What a treasure! I sure hope that you can find the baby Jesus though! Hehe!

Thank you for sharing this beautiful tablescape with us...it really is gorgeous!!! I love the cream and silver together...so elegant!!! Ohhh...and those dinner plates are fabulous! What a beautiful place...love all the tall white, sparkly trees!!! Well my friend, I sure do appreciate you hosting this fun filled thrifting event!!!

Warmest wishes and Christmas blessings to you and your family, my friend!

I have a framed piece of Sheet Music that my granddad wrote. It is called Moonbeams. When I married my name changed to Moon so when my daughter got married, we had my granddad's song played on the harp during the seating of the mothers! Everyone in my family recognized it immediately!
