jammin at the Junction, with an appearance by Bo Bice and a Giveaway

I spent the better half of the evening last night working on a very exciting project. Something that is very near and dear to my heart. Last February, my good friend Larry Childers passed away, though he didn't leave this earthly world without touching the lives and hearts of many.
Larry Childers was the kind of man who knew everyone. He believed in being involved. He supported others and his community. You could see him on any given day, at the courthouse where he worked. He loved God, Family and Country. He had a passion for politics. You could see him at any and every election working the polls.Larry was a Godly man. A family man. A friend to all who knew him. A military, man who served this great country.
It is for these reasons that some of those that knew Larry the best wanted to do something in his name. Contribute, make a difference and touch the lives of those in the very community he loved in doing it. And so, a benefit concert in the memory of Larry Childer's was born.

"Jammin at the Junction" will take place on Saturday September 26, 2009.

It's something that we plan to make an annual event to benefit the causes that were so near and dear to his heart.

Festivities:
  • The Day will begin with a Motorcycle Smoke-n-Guns Poker Ride
  • (Benefitting Helena Police and Fire Explorers)Included with the event best and worst hand prizes. Last bike in by 2:00 p.m.
  • A Cruise-in Car Show
Music Acts including:

  • Alexia Rankin (contemporary)
  • Overalls (bluegrass)
  • Unshackled (bluegrass, gospel)
  • 2 Blu+the lucky shifts (blues)
  • The Mitchell Brothers
  • Rock Candy (rock)
And a very special appearance by a very special friend of Mr. Childers, BO BICE.

*****Bo Bice appearing with Rock Candy (rock, southern rock)

ALL PROCEEDS will benefit Helena Kiwanis, Safe House, Veterans, Institute for the Deaf, Helena Police and Helena Fire, City of Helena.

Tonight I got a look at the draft design for the T-shirts for the Poker Motorcycle Run. The t-shirts are being designed by artist Dave Rankin (Dave is husband to my new friend, Jennifer of Wildflower Wax. He also went to school with my brother!). I cannot think of a better word to say than AMAZING! I cannot wait to see what he does for the concert t-shirt. He is one amazing talent!
I will give more information as I have it available, including the website when it is up and running.

On this note.....Today's Giveaway....

The Bo Bice CD, "See the Light". I gave my personal review of the album here.

All you have to do is leave a comment (if you are a follower comment twice for a second entry).
Just to make things fun, tell me two things:
What is your favorite song (does not have to be a Bo song)
What is your favorite charity and why?

I will pick a winner from all of the comments and post the winner on July 24th.
Good Luck! And I hope to see you at the Benefit Concert!

So sorry to hear about your friend but what a tribute, he must have been a great inspiration. I love all music but seen to listen to the old Rock and Roll more often. Love me some AC Dc and Beach Boys.
Hubby and I both work with the Shriners to Donate to the Hospital. It is all about the children and making them smile.
Keep the post coming, I really enjoy reading.

I have heard Joy talk about Larry and seeing his picture makes me sad I never had the chance to meet such a wonderful man that everyone looked up to!
1. My favorite charity is Compassion International. Alexa picked out a child to sponsor from the pictures at a Rich Mullins concert a few weeks before he passed away.We have watched the ministry do some pretty awesome things over the years.
2. My favorite song hmm...i can't answer that accurately at 1:30 in the morning, however I just read Nikki Sixx's heroin diaries which was gripping and I love the song he wrote, Life Is Beautiful...

Hi Leigh!
When school gets back in groove, we must start spending more time together. I miss you!

My favorite song is "Wasted Time" by the Eagles or "Heart of the Matter" by Don Henley. The first reminds me of a dear friend who died this past year. The second reminds me I need to let go and move on with life. That is difficult for me to do.

My current fav charity is really a church. The church of the Reconciler in downtown Bham. It's a church for the homeless. This year I am collecting used bra's to give to the homeless ladies. There is always a basket on my office porch if you are getting rid of old ones.
