I am so stoked! I got this request yesterday:
"I have a girlfriend flying out in May for a 7 day visit....she would like to take a road trip through the south....I thought maybe you could help me plan it:)
What I have in mind is taking a scenic route for and hour or two; making a stop to antique or have lunch, drive back home...On another day, do the scenic drive with a stay-over in mind with the motel or inn at our destination..
Any and all suggestions will be much appreciated:) Sandi"

What fun is this! I am really looking forward to helping plan. Hey! I may have a new career as a travel agent. Ok, I won't keep all the fu of planning to myself, I need your help! If you live in the great state of Alabama, where would you direct someone to go based on this email? If you don't live locally-what places from my own road trips have you found interesting? I will take all your suggestions to heart in making my decisions for their "Thelma and Louise" road trip. A word of advice, Sandi......Don't expect to find Brad Pitt roadside in Alabama. Cousin Randy, from Christmas Vacation but not Pitt.
Anyway...send in those suggestions! I can't wait to see what you all suggest. Keep in mind, Sandie lives in Birmingham so the road trip would only be an hour or two from the Ham. I cannot wait to get on this task!
Finally, a little art and craft project for today. This inspiration came from my visit to blogger Laura Beth's house last Friday. LB was giving a home tour, when we got to the playroom, I spotted feathers. Red feathers. I inquired and LB pulled out a wreath. A red wreath with a houndstooth bow...a certain nod to my team, University of Alabama.
"It's so easy to make!" said LB. And in close inspection it seems it is. All you need is a Styrofoam wreath.
LB used three red boas, I guess that you could use as many or little boas you want to decide the thickness and based on the size of the wreath. LB just twisted the boas around and secured at each end. She bought the ribbon at Hobby Lobby and made the ribbon and also attached it. I can see so many possibilities with this project! Do you have any idea what the feather wreaths cost at the hospital when someone has a baby? Ridiculous. And I can see any sports teams colors, events like baby showers or birthdays, even wedding. Hey! A purple boa with some green and gold ribbon would be precious for Mardi Gras! And I can just imagine a natural neutral boa (grey brown and whites) sans the ribbon on a door. Very sheek. That red wreath will most certainly be on my door come football season!
I love it!
I hope to see you later this evening (Mr. Linky will be up tonight at 9PM sharp) or tomorrow to link back for Thrifty Thursday!

I went to the Thrift store today just for Thrifty Thursday!! I will post mine later today (since we are 7 minutes into Thursday :D )
?????? Seven minutes into Thursday??? Did I lose a whole day? My brain, clock, and computer all tell me it's Wednesday.
What a cute wreath!
As soon as I get settled again, I would love to participate in your Thrifty Thursdays Leigh.
I was sooooo sorry to hear of your friend's loss. Does she blog? If so please give me her link. If she would like to contact me have her email to bjm_photoATyahoo.com (change the AT to @)She may still be in that "fog" stage where she really doesn't want to talk to anyone, much less a stranger. But any time she's up to it, I'm here, and I truly understand. ♥
OK, Before I even comment...today is Wed! Tomorrow is Thursday.
Jennifer- I am looking forward to seeing your thrifty find! Cant wait. FYI- today is wed, so you have a few more hours to prepare. I sure hope you werent up that late trying to get your post in order. Sleep in the AM.
Keetha- OK, are y'all incahoots? WHich one of you is trying to convince me that I am going crazy. I just spent a great amount of time looking at my post to see if I had said it was seven minutes into thursday. One of us needs sleep.
Thanks Mari! It is easy to make!
Thanks Betty JO, for your kindness. It is early, but I do plan to give her your info. I think you could both relate very well and have a kinship.
I would suggest they go to Savannah, but I don't know how far that is from Birmingham. I hope to get something together to play along tomorrow.
Boo Hoo, I didn't get to go Thrifting this week, but my whole house is full of thrifting finds. I will come up with something.
Oh, and the road trip could find its way to Cleveland. Covered bridges, junk shops, and senic roads. Oneonta is only 20 minutes from Cleveland. Pinson is 40 minutes from Cleveland. Trussville is and hour and Guntersville is a hour north.
LOL Leigh - - - I saw what Jennifer said in her comment, thus MY confusion about the day - - - but since YOU think it's Wednesday, and I think it's Wednesday, and EVERYONE here at school thinks it's Wednesday - - - I'm going with WEDNESDAY!!!!
:-)
Tardevil- I LOVE, I mean big puffy heart love Savannah, but that is eight hours away. Doesnt look like that will be do able. See you tomorrow!
Jerri- Those are great suggestions! I am ashamed to admit, I have never done the coverd bridges route, but have always wanted to. Great suggestions there. I may come up with a few options and allow her to decide. Thanks so much for those. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Keetha- I was almost convinced someone was trying to send ME to the looney ben. LOL. Glad we are on the same page. Here's betting Jenn is now to.
Oh I LOVE that wreath. I'm definitely gonna make me one of those next year!!
Love ya Leigh. Sorry I've meen MIA lately - I'm a bad, lazy bloggin' buddy.
Oh, I am going to play along!! Wait until you see what I picked out of the trash on my day off Monday. :-) I already too pictures, too, so I'll get a post together later tonight.
Ohhhhhhhh Ohhhhhhhhhh Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I have a fishing sign I'm going to post for you tomorrow!!!! Remembeer back in Nov when we went to Canton...that HUGE market! I bought a really neat fishing sign and we hung it over our little storage shed outside!!!!! =) It will allllllllllllllll be in my post tomorrow...just for you my dear!!!!!
When you talk about road trips...I always clue in on the places you pick to eat at!!!! I like the downhome cooking places you pick!!!! Sounds like a FUN road trip!!!!!!!
How sweet are you to post my wreath!?! Truth be told, I also have a red one with a white wooden "J" from Hobby Lobby hanging in the "hole". I put it in the front bedroom at Christmas, and am planning a brown-toned one embellished with a few longer feathers and seed pods for fall.
Also have a suggestion for your friend; not-to-surprisingly, it's Decatur. There are several neat antiques stores downtown on Bank Street across from the Old State Bank and on nearby 2nd Avenue, and I highly recommend the chicken salad croissant from Curry's for lunch. If she's interested in spending the night, I suggest Holiday Inn - it's got a great view overlooking the river. Hartselle is about 15-20 minutes away and has some seriously cute stores and antiques downtown on Main Street. Seriously. Cute.
Enjoyed catching up with you this afternoon Leigh. The road trip sounds like fun. I love a good road trip!! Maybe venture up into TN or over Mississippi. Or go south a little ways. I'm not real familiar with your neck of the woods, but always wanted to explore.
Looking forward to what you decide to do.
Just discovered your blog (can't remember how) & love it! I think I'm going to use the mardi gras wreath idea...too fun!
I'm also eager to join in on Thrifty Thursdays but I'd like to combine posts if you don't mind. I play in Tablescape Thursdays & I use thrifted plates & accessories. Is it all right w/ you if I attend 2 parties @ once?
