Lin Miaoke, top, who lip-synched at the opening ceremony over the voice of Yang Peiyi, below, whose appearance concerned Chinese officials
Have you heard this? I am beside myself with irritation over the Chinese not allowing a little girl to sing their national anthem (publicly) because they deemed her "not pretty enough". They chose another child to lip sync the version the "unchosen one" sang. Yep, China pulled a Milli Vanilli. And we wonder why so many young girls today have low self esteem? It is a global issue it seems. And it burns me up!!! I cannot help but think if it was a small boy that the same issues would be raised. Both little girls are beautiful. The message this sends to girls everywhere is wrong. It's demeaning. And it burns my hide. I had to vent....

I read that entire article and I agree with you, it's very maddening. But really what do you expect from the Chinese leaders? They are very proud people and want to put the best image out there. But I'm not condoning it in the least. I'm just not that surprised.
I was just going to say - - - with all else I know about China and her policies, I was not surprised by this one, though I agree that it was a pitiful decision on their part.
Isn't that horrible? Poor beautiful little girl!
I heard this on the news the other day and I just could not believe it. I totally agree with you. China has really made some controlling decisions during the Olympics- but this one just about takes the cake.
Preach it sista!!! There are many things about the Olympics being in China that have irritated me and this just makes the list longer.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not boycotting Olympic viewing. Lord knows I've missed A LOT of sleep this week and we've got one week to go.
The "ugly ducking" message was heard around the world. Shame on you Chinese government!
While I've heard its changed now in China my wife and I adopted a little girl from there because of how girls were not wanted as much as boys. My daughter has me tied around her finger.
Just so wrong!
It is so crazy!
I agree completely on this! I was dumbfounded when I heard it on the news the other day. I think they are both precious and China would have been well served by letting the actual singer sing. She has the voice of an angel and the smile to go with it!
Thanks for letting me stop in. I will check in soon.
Boycott NBC and the "Olympics"!
Regarding the girl, she's lucky she wasn't murdered as an infant for not being male. The Chinese do that routinely if their first-born is female.
Trina and Keetha-It is both surprising but yet expected from such a government.
Troll & Tammy- I went back and forth on this. And finally, I feel that for me, as much as I do not approve of the Chinese goivernment and their positions, I would be failing to support our American athletes who have trained so faithfully for the competeion. It is a hard decision to make.
MS Schmitty, Butterlfy Girl, Cindy,Drama, BAma Belle- I think we all agree it is absolutley dispicable. I wonder, some I know...are you all tuning ito the olymipics and what is your feeling on boycotting?
Beach Bum-Congratultions to you and your wife adoption. I know that God has blessed you all as a family and I pray that He continue to do so. You sound like a good daddy with a heart bigger than China! Whose love goes to the moon and back for his babby girl. Congrats! And thank you , sir, for your military service.
This pissed me off! I was sooooooooooooooooooooooo sad to hear this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's telling people that LOOKS are all that matter! Your skills mean nothing!!!!!!!!!!
IT'S WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
China should crawl under a ROCK and HIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the heck? That little girl is darling! Poor little thing, that must have made her feel so sad.
I don't condone it, but China isn't the only country that does that.
You are darn tootin' that it burns me up! BOTH of these children are adorable.
