My Friend Chris

I am so terribly saddened by news of the passing of a friend of mine. It is one that I have mentioned in two previous post on my blog. He became my friend when I was in 5th or 6th grade. He is Chris Cross. Chris was such a funny person. Me and my friend Debby met Chris Cross and Chris Hatfield at the swimming pool at the club. I recall a summer of swimming at the pool, phone calls to one another and hunting in a creek on the club grounds for snakes and crawdads with the 2 Chris'. I cannot even listen to a Styx song without thoughts of him. He was really into that group back then. And lets not even talk about the infamous skating rink saga. I was so mad at him. We didn't talk for years after that, as is how kids are. But in high school, when he began going to the same school as I, we put the past aside.
He was always the sweetest person. Chris couldn't hurt a fly. He always had the biggest smile on his face and it was contagious in the fact that upon seeing him, you would find yourself smiling too. It's been 20 years since I last saw Chris. Life takes us in different places. I began to ask around about him, no one knew. And then recently I got the news from his friend Hatfield that he had passed away. Though it had been 20 years since I had seen Chris, I mourn for that kind spirit that I knew. He was the sweetest person, so caring. That is the one I will always remember. May God bless him and his family that he left behind.
