Spring Fashion Fiesta

small button

Big Mama is having a Spring Fashion Fiesta. She always has the coolest post and tips. Remember she was the inspiration for my hairapy post and the Greatest Love Songs of the 80's post. I am playing along with the Fashion Fiesta, for if I win, I may get a bloggy makeover. And lets be frank, we all know I need it. I can use a make over of any kind, be it self , hair or computer related. Lucky or Unlucky (?) for you all, you get to see inside the sometimes hideous, hopefully sometimes clever things I have hidden in my closet....my clothes closet! Big Mama asks, "What do you wear on a daily basis? What’s your uniform? What piece of clothing can you not live without?"

Let me begin by saying, you will find that basically, for me at my age, it now all boils down to comfort. Life is to short not to be comfortable. If something isn't comfortable, it goes in a trashcan. If I am consciences of it being on my body, I don't like it. As a woman, we have all sacrificed our bodies to fashion by wearing shoes that hurt like a mutha' because that were sooooo cute. The same can be said for outfits to undies. These days, I still have not embraced the granny pantie, and hopefully I will not ever get to that point but I am just going to say it like it is (and you can quote me) , "if it crawls up my crack it goes in a sack".

I have even been known to be in public, get deep into a rear pick, and we all know how embarrassing that is, so I will excuse myself, remove the abusive article in a bathroom stall and toss into the trash. Yes, those belonged to me. That didn't behave. I have threatened my children to this same process when they get out of line in public.

So, here we go! Buckle up and enjoy the bumpy ride of my fashion forte:

Let's start with what I begin each day with. I roll out of bed at 6:13 Am and start grabbing what I can find to put on. Usually yoga pants, shorts or sweat pants, and a "t" &/or sweatshirt. What ever that is, it becomes my "bus stop uniform". It is what you will see me in at 6:50 AM as I wait with my children for the school bus to arrive. I have zero makeup on. It's quite hideous!

BTW-Those shorts are a shout out to my former High School. Ahhh, remember when. Those shorts are so comfortable, I refuse to chunk them. It was once Berry High School Bucs, but now it is Hoover Bucs. (Yes, that Hoover Bucs) But it wasn't like that when my class was there. Our Coach was the wonderful and legendary Coach Bob Finley. My grandmother taught with him when he was in Dora. She adored the man. Everyone that ever knew him did. Go Bucs!
We're so fine, We're so great! We're the class of '88! Wow! I can rememebr that. I just can't remember where my grocery list is....

To be honest my fashion/style isn't very complicated. I don't have a different uniform for different occasions. From grocery shopping to going out to eat, mine are generally the same. We don't dine anywhere but places that serve chicken fingers with a side order of fries with a kid friendly drink cup. Sometimes, we even get a coloring place mat, that my husband undoubtedly steals from one of our children. Here are my basic "go anywhere" outfits...

Here are a couple pics from my t-shirt collection. I LOVE a good t. And if it has some ridiculous saying on it, I have to have it. I know that goes against all good fashion sense, but I have been known at times to make up my on rules. I could so be called out on "What not to Wear " for this reason alone. But just read some of these...and some have special meaning (like the Kidfest one my daughter made. And the Hot Buns one, I actually bought for Big Daddy and it got rejected. I wear it now just to embarrass Bama).

The hot pink Blondie one is one of my most favorites. This was just a small sampling of the t collection. Its really sick.

A small sampling of my shoe collection. Here is the flats...comfy shoes, which are my daily wear...

My flipflops (I have more flip flops than anything else I own so I just picked these)...daily as well, depending on the weather:

Here is my favorite new pair of shoes that I bought for spring at Payless. Why pay more when you can pay less?

And heels, which is pretty rare that I wear. Someone must get married or die to slip these on these days.... And the heels have gotten closer to the ground. I have bad ankles so it's only logical. A woman falling to the ground, there is nothing graceful about that, unless you count the grace in disgraceful. That'd be me.

Speaking of weddings and funerals, Here is a few pieces from my skirt "department". You will see that most have the twirly, piecie , gauzy thing happening. I like to pretend like I am Stevie Nicks or Pat Benetar (aka Love is a Battlefield video when she dances in the bar). Yes, I realize that was over 20 years ago. It is all about how it makes me feel. I even have one skirt (not pictured here, that I wear when I want to pretend I am in Lord of the Dance or an Irish Dancing Girl. I also have some skirts to wear with my new dance fix, belly dancing. Yes, I did say belly dancing.)

Love my boots. Remember this post? The ones on the far left I found at the thrift store, NEVER worn! It was a boot sample. On the bottom it says, "not for resale, sample only". I don't know what that means. Or why? There may be some potential deadly agent that it is made from....but I got 'em on. And yes, those black ones on the far right do have fringe up the side. LOL!

I love a good hat. Outside it is a must. A few years ago I had a small "suspicious place" removed from my stomach. The doctor said it would have developed into skin cancer had I left it alone. I now take it very serious and apply my sunscreen and wear a hat if I am outside for an extended time. I never go to a tanning bed!! My doc thinks that is where I got it. Do not believe all that stuff about bad rays not being in the bed-it is worse. I know alot more than I used to. I found out the hard way. For summertime, I LOVE Jergens tan in a bottle, it isn't streaky or unnatural looking and it quite inexpensive.

My hip hop hats:

My beach and hiking hats:

There are some more up there (Embarrassing. I used to have that stacked my color and got lazy and just threw up clothes. Ok, this weekend, That's my project-you'll see! That's a post to aspire to as a weekend warrior)

Dang it, I wish I could find my two most favorite hats to show you (ball caps). They are lost in the stuff I should be cleaning up instead of posting. One came from Lulu's, the other from a bait shop. Yes, I have found some cute things in a bait shop. That could be another call out by Stacey and Clinton.

I hope you all have enjoyed this roller coaster through Leigh's Dress up and Pretend World. I have to say this took up the better part of a day to do this post. I sure hope Big Daddy doesn't notice that nothing has gotten done around the house or I could possibly be fired and forced to embrace a Shoney's uniform as my daily fashion style.

So, That's it! That's my own personal fashion fiesta, heavy on the salsa!

I'd love to see your fiesta! If you participate, let me know. And by all means, I can take it...let me know what cha think of mine.

Hi. I'm here from the fiesta. Where's the tacos? Ooooooooo. Is that guacamole?????

Mmmmmrpphhhhh.

Excuse me. (Groovy wipes her mouth then stuffs the napkin in her pocket)

You and I are absolute twins in out fashion feelings. In your 40s it is time to get real and get comfy. I have no heels. 0, nada, zilch. All my clothes must move with me and breathe with me or they. are. OUT.

And so, to sum up, amen, sister, AMEN!

Oh, and pass the salsa!

Oh dear - - - I USED to shop at Belks when I lived in the Carolinas - - - but they are nonexistent up here in the Colts/Hoosier state.

I love your hats and t-shirt collection. I love it when people wear shirts with sayings... I saw a kid at the park the other day whose shirt said "I still live with my parents", classic! They are starting him early. Thanks for letting us look around!

OK Miss Leigh - - - - here's an observation. I think you and I are cut largely out of clone cloth.

I've been going around to ALL the blogs on the linky list - - - - and I find you on NEARLY every one too!!!! I've also enjoyed our little chit chat back and forth about shoes and Belks and what have you.

I hope this will be the beginning of a long a bloggy friendship.

(PS - - - Did you find the Fiesta entry by "Keri" - - - she's my number one daughter, and carrying our NEXT grandchild as we speak.)

I'm jealous of your hats and boots! I absolutely L.O.V.E. hats but have yet to find one that actually loves me as much as I love it. And my goal for next winter is to add to my boot collection. It's a sad group of 2 at the moment.

Thanks for the gander at your closet! =0)

I love your post. It's been fun to see how other people dress.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Everybody seems to love my $2 flip-flops! So, how far are you from Tuscaloosa? I have family there.

Hi Leigh. First time here. (I told you I'd come!!)

Great fashion sense and all, but I must ask....

What does "middle-aged" mean to you??

Patty said...

Enjoyed your fashion fiesta!! LOVED the t-shirts and all of your shoes! Thank you for stopping by my place. Have a great weekend.

I read through your hair post too, oh my.. you had my laughing so hard. I don't know if you still have the same "do" but I loved the one you were saying "help" with.. realy, it's adorable!

Thanks for stopping in everyone. I have left answers to questions on peoples personal blogs.
Dullbert- i do have a cape....(smile)

Soliliquy-Girl middle aged to me is about 35-the point when you decide you are “old”…Which I will never be. But I sure aint “young”. AS Bugffett says, I am growing older but not up. I think I am middle of the road in my journey of life, though closer to the side of youth…I am in a hip hop class and my teacher was telling me how people dance in clubs…thats young…I am so glad I am not in the dating world. That post is on my blog, it is http://lbratina.blogspot.com/2008/04/dance-dance-dance.html
Good Lawd! I am glad I am beyond all of that.
Groovy old lady and Keethea, it has been fun chatting with you tonight!

You're a BRAVE woman posting all that stuff! I'm scared if I posted my wardrobe, the "What Not to Wear" people would come and cart me away.

Also, I have totally done that same thong-chucking move in the bathroom. Sometimes a sista just needs to go without.

What a shoe collection! I love your boots.

Cute clothes! I LOVE hats, but don't usually have the courage to wear anything but baseball caps. I plan on branching out more this summer! :)

I hadn't been on your blog in forever, and I am so impressed with the fact that you know Fabian! He has done an amazing job with Marlee and seems like a nice guy! I have so much respect for Marlee, not just b/c she's deaf but also she's in Brooklynn's Baby Einstein videos that teach kids to sign!

OK, your closet is way cooler than my closet but your bod is also way smaller than my bod.

Your suggestion to put Head and Shoulders Girl on a stack of books was inspired. She is probably coming in and finding a literary pedestal tomorrow!

I want to come and live in your closet... I am lovin the boots you have posted... Not a "Cow" girl just a "Country" girl that likes footwear! Thanks for the post on my site as well. By the way, love your photography. Wish I lived closer to you!! The MP's need an update with photos.

MP Designs said...

This country girl is lovin those boots you have posted. I own a pair or two myself. They have never been used for their true purpose in life, but on any given day the man of my house could call and say come help with the cows. I would certainly be ready with the footwear. Wish I lived closer to AL. Your photos are great - my MPs need an update in that department.
