Thrifty Thursday #103, Plus a Tablescape

I am most delighted to have you join in..for it's YOU who makes it a "show and tell party". That's no lie or exaggeration, each week I visit Susan's porch and just long to be a guest at any of her tablescapes...especially those held on the porch.

First of all, I want to welcome our new Thrifty Thursday participants and Tales from Bloggeritaville followers. We have had several comment in the last few weeks, saying that they are new to the Thrifty Thursday party. I hope that everyone will make a point to pay a visit to other participants.

I haven't posted this week, except for today. A friend of mine, from highschool was killed in a car accident. I almost felt as if I were being disrespectful if I blogged. I felt I needed to be "quiet" to honor his memory.
Also, Big Daddy has been home much of the week due to illness. A bad cold, but one that makes one feel bad no less. He has had me playing nursemaid. He is worse than any of my three children when it comes to being sick. Don't tell him I said that.  Anyway...thus the lack of post. Next week is a new week.

But, we still have today. And today IS THRIFTY THURSDAY!
Today I am sharing a remodeling redo, fashioning a sink/counter top space made from an antique chest. It adds allot of charm and a get "new" look to a space. To be sure your project is feasible, contact your plumber. Or your husband, but in my case, I that would be like me asking my 4 year old niece if it could be done, so "Call the Man" as Andy Griffith would say. I like it when I get to "call the man". Then I know it works.

1. Start with a self rimming sink to keep water off the chest top. If your sink doesn't come with a template, draw your own and tape it to the top of the chest. Drill a 1/4 inch on the inside of the outline, then use a jigsaw to carefully cut along the inside of the template.

2.Cut holes for pipes and seal drawers shut. Or, to retain drawer space, adapt drawers to fit around pipes, making cutouts for the pipes and piecing in new wood as needed.Refitting the lower drawers requires average skills, although the top drawers may require a pro to reshape them.

3.Waterproof the dresser. For natural wood, sand the wood lightly with a fine grain sandpaper, use a tackcloth to remove oil dust. Apply a high gloss polyurethane. If your piece is painted, apply two coats of high gloss acrylic.

4.Once the plumbing has been hooked up by you or a professional, and before the sink has been cemented, replace drawers. Slightly adjust the position of the sink as needed. To provide a good seal between the sink and counter top, apply a thin bead of caulk.

5.To complete the installation, bolt the mirror (which you have detached in the beginning) directly to the wall. Finally be sure to provide adequate grooming lights on either side of the mirror.
