Collinsville Trade Day

Collinsville Flea Market is a treasure hunters gold mine. Open-air dealing and a step back in time makes Collinsville Flea Market one of the greatest real-life shopping experiences left. Find out what Southern rural life is and was all about at the Collinsville Trade Day every Saturday in Alabama, from 4:30 a.m. until dealers go home, usually starting around noon.  Started in 1972, Collinsville Flea Market has over 800 booths and can find over 30,000 shoppers on a good weather day. Come with me as I shop around for some deals...

Trade Day is an open air flea market, it is active year round. At Trade Day you will find everything from farm fresh vegetables.....

(Buckets of Fresh Corn for $5.00 per bucket)

(Sugar Cane stand against a pole, ready to sell)
(Sweet Onions)
to clothing and accessories:

I go to Trade Day to grab a bag of some of the best roasted peanuts you will find (with exception to those at Morris Ave. in Birmingham).

Today I had Big Daddy in mind when I chose a few bags of the cajun peanuts. Our fmaily loves all things hot. And these are perfect to keep in his desk at work for a afternoon snack.

I also decided to try out the cajun boiled. They are cooked with peppers and onions and a great variety of spices. THE BEST I've EVER had!!!!
Yum!
Mom got some raw peanuts:

And for those with a sweet tooth, there is something for you too. Like funnel cakes and ice cream.

Collinsville Flea Market is found on Highway 11 South in Collinsville. Once you're within 30 miles, you can stop anywhere and just ask folks "Where's the Flea Market" and the locals all know what you're talking about and start to answer you even before you finish your question! For more information, you can call (256)524-2127. Be sure and go early to get the best deals. We've gotten there after noon and some of the vendors have packed up and gone home, but with over 800 booths, there's still plenty sellers until 2 o'clock or so.

(Collinsville, Alabama is located on US Highway 11 half way between Gadsden, Alabama and Fort Payne, Alabama. We are only about three miles from Interstate 59. Collinsville Trade Day is in the valley between Lookout Mountain and Sand Mountain. Saturday, the market opens at 4:30AM and lasts until everyone leaves (usually early afternoon)).

Sounds and looks like a good pace to go. I hope to go to the flea market here in Sept. if it cools down some.

This looks like such a fun thing to go too. I can see you wouldn't leave empty handed!
I have to wonder what one does with sugar cane...

My grandparents used to take us there. We would leave their house about 3 in the morning and they would make us beds in the back of the truck. We would be all wrapped up in blankets and still in our pjs. We would change when we got there.

It is a fun place to go!

I used to go to Collinsville at least once a month...I thought it was closed. Thanks for the reminder about it. You need to come check out Wehadkee Trade Days in Rock Mills. It is the 1st and 3rd Saturday. This weekend...there is Powers Crossroads...on Hwy22....between Roanoke, AL and Newnan, Ga. ...and the first weekend in October is the Gay, Ga big thing. Check them out.

You make me homesick for flea markets! They don't do them here in New Zealand like they do in the US!!!

We went to Collinsville once years ago with my brother-in-law who was a regular attender.

His favorite expression was "you'll find everything from Amazing Grace to Floating Opportunity."

I still have a beautiful large crockery bowl and lid I bought that day.

Thanks for taking me back to those memories...

Blessings...Betty @ Country Charm
