The House That Built Me

When I first heard this song by Miranda Lambert, The House that Built Me, I was driving down the road. And it was just one of those things....I became overcome with emotion. It was if she had read my thoughts about what I think of when I think of home.
My first thought was what I knew it as my Grandmother's home, though it was actually my Great grandparents home. Many families, children and grandchildren passed through its doors. In my family it is referred to as "the Collinsville House".
It's where so many members of my family (cousins, aunts, uncles, greats) have special memories that derived from that home.
I sent the song link below to my family members and asked if they would Please listen to the words of the song. But I also thought I would share it with you. It's a song that I think many can relate to, but in particular those who are raised in the south and have such a sentimentality to our roots and where "we came from". I know you will all relate to it too for your own special reason.

I also included 2 links to my blog with stories from the quilt walk. I think you may have seen it, but if not....

I'd love to hear about your "roots", share in the comments if you are so inclined.

The CSN Giveaway ends tonight. If you havent already, be sure to enter. Winner will be announced soon thereafter. Good luck!

The other day Heather was watching music videos and I happened to catch that one. It's very touching and got to me too. I have lots of family "roots" too and the song reminded me of them.

What an awesome song, Leigh. I feel as sentimental as you do!

Leigh, I cry every time I hear this song...it means something to me (my grandmothers house) and my daughter (our house). It truly is a beautiful song...I think there should be a linky party for this song - not an every week thing but a one timer...hmmm...

I love that song! During the month of May, it seemed to be on the radio every morning while we were driving to school. Of course, Elizabeth would sing it and I would tear up every. single. time. Love the new blog header!

I live in the "house that built me" and it is the picture in the header of my blog. My grandfather built it for my grandmother, my mother grew up here, I lived my childhood here and I bought in back into the family when my oldest was 8 months old. I feel my whole family around me every day, many of whom are no longer here on this earth. I thank God for allowing me to live in this house.

Every radio announceer here (men in particular) is talking about how that song is what they have been feeling or how they have done what Miranda Lambert does in the video. It is a very moving song, because I think everyone has tried at some point to reconnect with that magical part of their childhood. How cool that you guys have a Collinsville house. For me it is my Aunties house. It was built by my Great Great Grandma and Grandpa and my Aunt owns it now. Eveyone of us has memories in that house. Great Post!

I especially miss the house that "built" me in the summer-- it had shade trees all around that old house and we lived without air conditioning because it was cool even without because of shade trees! It had fruit trees around so there was always a treat to be picked off the tree if you were hungry. It now has houses built around it and the fruit trees are no longer all there, but I always remember it the way it was growing up in it! : )
Leigh I enjoy your playlist that was "Beach" songs -- Chesney, Buffet, Santana, Some Beach Somewhere!!!! Just a thought!!!

Enjoy your summer-

I LOVE that song. The first time I heard it I was in my car on the way to work and it made me cry. It reminds me of the house I grew up in in the country. My parents had divorced and my mom's "therapy" was renovating and remodeling an old home.

p.s. I appreciate your Nashville flood button! I live in Nashville. :) Also I am a Buffett fan so I love the name of your blog.
