Thrifty Thursday # 58-plus a Tablescape

Hi! It's Thrifty Thursday! I am your host, Leigh. Thank you so much for stopping by and additional thanks to those who also participate in Thrifty Thursday! I am most delighted to have you join in..for it's YOU who makes it a "show and tell party". I also participate in Tablescape Thursday the host of that fun carnival is the Hostess with the Mostess...Susan of Between Naps on the Backporch. That's no lie or exaggeration, each week I visit Susan's porch and just long to be a guest at any of her tablescapes...especially those held on the porch.

(You can click on any pictures for a closer view)

*Thrifty Thursday takes place each Thursday and is hosted here at Tales from Bloggeritaville, but the party is a progressive one, visit the links to see all the Thrifty Thursday links to see the thrifty treasures participating bloggers have to share.

*Don't forget to copy and paste the Thrifty Thursday logo button to your computer so you can add it to your side bar and your Thrifty Thursday post. That way visitors will know that your are participating in Thrifty Thursday.

I just returned from a mini vacation to the gulf, where I met up with bloggers Jenn of Dust Bunny Hostage and Kristin of the Goat.

I just adore these women! I have had a mutual blog following relationship for at least a couple years, but our blog friendships have extended to real life ones. It was a pleasure to be able to spend some time with these two amazing women. I love when life allows aquaintances to bloom into friendships, which is certainly the case with Jen and Kristin. I will share more specifics about our day in a future post.

Together we, along with my partner in crime-my mother, took in the Fairhope Alabama arts and crafts show. I will share more about the art show itself in a later post. There were numerous things that I wanted to take home. I love to go to art shows because
1. I enjoy prerusing the booths for unique finds that I can use in my home.
2. Just like I love to support mom and pop restaurants, I love to support an independant artist!
3. It inspires me....sometimes I think..I can make that! And so I do.

Such was the case with a windchime that my mother purchased for her outdoor porch.  They make lovly chimes, the sound is pretty as is the chime itself. And it can be easily made using thrift store and yard sale flatware pieces.

Use old silver silverware for the best "sounds", and usually they are more ornamental than what you find in a dollar store or such.

1 fork
1 spoon
4 other forks or knives
Fishing line
Drill and small drill bit
Pliers
Directions:
Drill small holes in the handles of each utensil.

Using the pliers, bend the tines of one fork out in each direction (think west, north, south, east), and then curl the ends upwards. Tie a length of fishing line to the spoon. The spoon will hang in the middle, so tie it to one of the middle tines of the fork, as close to the center of it as you can get. Next, tie a length of fishing line to each of the other utensils and hang them from each curl of the fork.

The sound of the chime is beautiful. If using the knives, the sound will be lower. Other forks make a tinkling sound. You can let the spoon hang naturally, or bend the ladle part up so as to hit the other utensils more frequently.

You can incorporate other silver pieces like sugar bowls, creamers...even teapots. Allow your imagination to shape your windchime!

I also wanted to share with you, a couple chalkboard frames that I saw at the fair:

What thrifty finds did you come up with this week?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, onto to Tablescape Thursday, which is hosted by Susan of Between Naps on the Porch.

Easter is right around the corner, so I thought I would share an Easter tablescape, this one with bunnies and spring colors and whimsy.

Thanks for hosting this link party. I'm not sure if mine exactly fits the category but I did all the work myself (including taking the photos I hung up), which makes it pretty thrifty.

Hi Leigh!

It sounds like you guys had a last getting together and thrifting! If I were there, I would have joined you!

My mom has a windchime very similar to this one. I love it. Now I might have to think about making one!

Have a great evening!

Don't mean to be goofy, but how do I take your button without html code?

This my first time participating too. Thanks for hosting.

My mother in law was given her grandmothers silver silverware. It wasnt a matched full set, just a lot of it. She wanted to share it with her kids so to make it more special she made all three of them a windchime using the pieces. We call it "Great Grandma's Chime". When the wind blows and the chime chimes my youngest son would say "Great Grandma is talking to us!"

Thanks for hosting, Leigh! The project I linked up involves some flatware I found at Goodwill. Since then, I've been trying to look for other uses for forks and spoons - I think your chime would be just perfect!

Thanks for the idea, I look forward to trying it out and reading all of the other ideas out there! :)

Hello there dear Leigh,

Well, what a time I had getting this post up; every single picture that I took with my camera was too dark and had to be lighted!..,

Also,I have many 'good will/thrift' items featured today Leigh; (I'll have to remember to go back and mention them specifically in my post).

As usual, your pictures and finds are fabulous!

Please do pop by!..,

Hugs, Wanda Lee

Hello to our host!
I don't always leave comments, because I usually want to see the treasures, with four children I have limited time, and it hasn't been working recently to leave comments - my blog doesn't want to show me as logged in, even when I am, due to some settings my child monkeyed with on the internet. But I wanted to say Hi!, because I DO know that part of the fun are the comments! I enjoy your site weekly.

What fun to link up to other bloggers in person!

Love the wind chimes; I have a whole box of oddball flatware I could play with, if only I had a drill. :-)

And the bunnies are adorable -- what cute Easter tableware. Love the foil bunnies in the centerpiece, and the little fuzzy ones in the tiny bowls. So sweet.
Thanks for hosting!
