This week I created. I created! I created a Pottery Barn knock off.
I feel as though I need a badge of "knockoffness" one that would put me in the league of other and much better knockoffnessers.
I was inspired by several bloggers such as Miss Mustard Seed , The Shabby Nest and Rumifications of a Working Mom to create a sheet music wreath using sheet music that I got from Diva's mothers estate sale.
I began by rolling my sheet music. I rolled an entire book. A thick book. And I rolled my first wreath tight, creating longer but thinner cones. Instead of using my hot glue gun, I used scoth tape to secure the sheets. By doing this I prevented some of those glue strings from hanging. But don't put your glue gun away. We will use it.
Ok. Rolled so many papers you think you will go blind?
Roll a few more. Then you might have enough cones to create a full wreath.
Now......You will need some sturdy cardboard. I used foam board.
I took one of my large dinner plates and put in on top of the foam board and traced around it, creating a circle.
I took a smaller salad plate and put it inside the circle, tracing around it. I then took my box cutter and cut along the traced area, creating a cardboard wreath.
Here is where the glue gun comes in...I took some wide ribbon that I happened to have at home and glued it to both sides of the wreath so it would be sturdy.
Using your glue gun, adhere cone to the wreath using a North-South-East-West fashion. Then fill in the between areas with other cones. By doing this, you will keep the wreath straight and from going catty-womper.
Yes, catty womper.
I did 2-3 layers of cones. Looking at it now, I still see some places I want to add more cones. But for now, the "finished" product:
Lucy Lu the Shihtsu could care less about the sheet music wreath. She cares more about the neighbors dog who is pooping in our front yard. But I digress.See, I think it needs some more. A work in progress.
And look! I got cone happy! I made another smaller wreath (salad plate + saucer) and this time I rolled larger cones. I like how this one turned out.
How I love a Pottery Barn thrifty imitation!
Wait!Go get yourself one of those Glah-deeh (Glad) candles at the grocery store.
Before you put away the sheet music....
Before you put away the sheet music....
Remove the Glade sticker....but make certain it doesnt stick to your backend, or people will know and may not think you are as fabulous as you really are.OK, next take that sheet music and wrap it around the candle.Trim off the excess so you dont burn the house down.
Then I took some raffia and tied and knotted it around the center of the candle. Pretty!
A nice little pretty to sit on your table.
Speaking of tables......
Now, onto to Tablescape Thursday, which is hosted by Susan of Between Naps on the Porch.
