(J Smooth's gang calls themselves "Wild Hogs")
You didn't carry blades and guns, but sticks that served as knight swords or paddles on pirate ships.
Your gang sign was a peace sign.
Though it were a gang of nine year old boysWild Hogs, you were sure that together you could handle any crisis that came up. Be it world affairs, or how best to tell mom that you fell into a mud puddle while wearing your "good shoes".
You could "get on your bikes and ride" without getting dirty looks from your neighbors.
The world was yours.........
...and the world's doorstep began at the woods at the end of the street....
It was where important meetings were held in a fort made of fallen trees. In chairs of old tires and an old grill for a podium. It was where not one leader was in command (that wouldn't be fair), but a unanimous vote to make four friends leaders of the free world.
A "free world" in the woods. There was nothing more exciting, yet peaceful on a Sunday afternoon.
Isn't childhood grand?
Hope your weekend was a "grand"!

That is so precious! Love those gangs of Wild Hogs!
TY Jeanette- All is right in their world. To know peace like that again....the innocense of childhood. What a blessing!
Precious! I love it. They are so cute... I mean fierce and tough! LOL
The Wild Hogs...what fun! This brings back memories of my guys and their friends...games of manhunt, blazing trails in the woods, making paintball courses (one neighbor called frantically worried that the boys had guns amd were wearing camo.)
Enjoy these days...the kids grow up so fast!

That is one gang I wouldn't mind running into! What cute pictures!
Hi Leigh,
Cute pictures. Reminds me of some great times my son had with his friends when he was that age. Good memories.

I love the Wild Hogs (although they look anything but wild!). Thank you for sharing this post...it was sweet.
That brings back memories. I was as comfortable playing 'war' with the boys (throwing pine cone grenades) as I was playing Charlie's Angels with the girls. It was all about make believe.
Loved this!
Cute! I love how boys like to run in packs! I especially like the photo of them all riding away on their bikes. Great photos. Continue to take lots!
Boy, those pictures brought back memories. We lived at the end of a dead end street in Texarkana when my boys were young. They loved playing in the woods at the end of the street. However, sometimes I wasn't so sure about their adventures, especially when we awoke one morning to find an alligator on our neighbor's driveway.
Love those pictures...fun memories for me with my boy..
Adorable, but don't tell the Wild Hogs that!
Hugs,
Dawn
That's the kind of gang I grew up in....I hope those boys are friends for life!

I love this, Leigh! Great images!!
Too cute! Umm, I meant intimidating!

They looked so cute!!~! I was not scared at all!
A very nice post for today. I am afraid the kind of days you featured are no more. I wish they were.
Have you seen the movie Without a Paddle? These photos remind me of the opening of that movie. Cute!
Oh for the days!!! Of course, here in Arkansas, Wild Hogs has an entirely different meaning!
Loved it!
