My Thrifty Thursday today is a double post, for it is also a tablescape.

These images are from Country Living Magazine, but they offer great inspiration for a terrific Halloween display:

Remember last week I shared some of these crows too. I purchased mine at The Dollar Tree.

My local thrift store has a special section devoted to seasonal items. It is chocked full of miscellaneous items. I purchased two "decor" skulls there last week that I used also in my Halloween display on my buffet. All of these items are vintage items.  Shop your thrift store, ebay, and anyplace you can find inexpensive decor. I also saw some great items at Old Time Pottery. Use what you have and mix it with what you can find for a great eclectic display.

Tablescape is hosted by the lovely, Susan of Between Naps on the Porch

Outdoor Wednesday-Plus a Reminder!

Welcome to Bloggeritaville! Today is Outdoor Wednesday! Outdoor Wednesday is hosted by the most gracious- Susan of Southern Daydreamer. For my OW post, I thought I would share some scenes from last Sunday's Homestead Hollow Festival in Springville, Alabama. I love a festival in the fall! Homestead Hollow is an arts ad crafts festival, but there is also lots of food, kids entertainment and music. It's fun for the entire family. There were many great crafts available for purchasing, but what I took home was a 5 lb bag of stone ground corn meal, perfect fixings for that perfect cornbread. Ever wonder why your cornbread doesn't taste as good as your grandma's? Sure, she put some love into it, but it's also the cornmeal. Once you buy the stone ground cornbread, you will never go back to what you find at the grocier. Commerical companies take out the corn oil  in their packaged meal to preserve the shelf life. This makes your cornbread dry and less crispy. If you can, purchase the stone ground cornmeal for a fresher, better tasting cornmeal. You'll be glad you did. What a difference it makes! (Just be certain to always store the non commercial cornmeal in your freezer!!!) For my Four+ Generation Cornbread recipe, visit my food blog, Plates and Places. It's what momma, and her momma, and even her momma cooked. And it's the recipe this momma also uses. YUMMY!
Enjoy the scenes from Homestead Hollow....

Doll Making

Scenes in the Garden

Food

(They don't really do this today at the Hollow. But it did make me think of my girl, Loretta. Yes, that Loretta.)

I invite you to join me tomorrow for Thrifty Thursday.
Until then, Happy Fall Y'all!
Thanks for taking the time to drop by, leave me a "roadmap".
HUGS!

A Southern Wedding

Whoever said that there is nothing like a June wedding, hasn't ever been to one in October, especially when it's an outdoor wedding in the south! Wherever the location, the Southern wedding reception also has a flavor all its own. Last Saturday I attended the wedding  and reception of Jean Marie, daughter of my friend "BBJ". The setting was perfect: 4PM, not a cloud in the sky and 75 degree's, under enormous oak tree's in a serene garden, three connecting gardens in fact!

The location was The Lincoln House and the Amzi Love Home, neighboring homes located in the Columbus, Mississippi historic district.

Both homes are among the oldest in Mississippi dating back to 1833, pre-civil war. The Lincoln Home is currently a bed and breakfast, with the innkeepers residing in the Ami Love Home. Both homes have been featured on Turner South's Three Day weekend. But this weekend was all about Jean and Dusti!

After an intimate outdoor ceremony, Jean Marie and her groom, Dusti greeted guest, noshed on delectable munchies and danced the night away to a wonderful band who played some of my favorite 60's and 70's genre tunes. Chef and my friend, Ann Hutchinson and her husband catered the event and served up some delicious southern fare. In the South, you can hardly have a thing without cheese straws or salted nuts. There's no self-respecting Southerner who doesn't have a cheese straw at every important moment of her life. You just have to have them. You're not married if you don't have a cheese straw. It’s almost as if the wedding isn’t consummated without a cheesestraw. There were also sandwiches of many varieties, fruit,  chex mix and Ann's infamous "BLT" ball.

My favorite though, was the non traditional Bean Soup.

It made a statement, served in handled shot glasses filled with bean soup, topped off with shredded cheese and one big cornbread crouton! Yum!
Guest followed red brick pathways that led from one garden to the next, where white paper lanterns hung from the tree's, and small fountains reflecting both the setting sun and floating candles in the water. To say the evening was beautiful would be an understatement. It was such a special night.

Jean Marie and Dusti gave their guest party favors that held a special meaning, Tyler candles and monogrammed match books with the occasion date. Tyler candles, in fact, had a hand in igniting that flame of love, both figuratively and literally. You can read the sweet love story from Jean herself, by clicking on the photo to enlarge.

Another nice touch, was a children's table, to keep smaller guest occupied. Spread about the table were stacks of coloring and puzzle books with pails of colors to entice creative minds.

It was the bride though, who stole the show, in a gorgeous wedding dress and bridal veil. Jeam Marie looked like a 40's era movie star/pin up girl and was absolutley stunning!

As the night began to wind down, and the newlyweds were talking up their Jammican honeymoon plans, the trees began to glow with twinking lights and the full moon shown through the branches from above, I couldn't help but agree with myself, there really isn't anything like an October wedding! And this one was one that I will be reliving for a long time. Magical! Best Wishes to Jean and Dusti. May you live happily ever after!

Bloggers Rock! But Can They Rock Burlap?

I received a package this week .......

My dogs Jane and Jeffery were on hand to inspect it. It passed the bomb sniffing dogs.

Look! It is from Vintage Swampgirl (aka Lynn)! I just adore the Swampgirl, although she is a "tiger", she is a sweetheart of a girl.
Just look what is inside! Look what she sent to me!......

A hassle of coffee bean burlap sacks!
There are so many beautiful designs...

Lynn was so kind to send me this huge box of sacks. I had mentioned how I would love to be able to find some sacks on a Thrifty Thursday post in which she shared her loot. Lynn, as generous as she is, boxed up several sacks and sent them to me!!!
I am already thinking of the many projects and ideas that I have in store for these beauties!
Like this idea from Lisa!!
I cannot wait to get started!
I would LOVE for you to share some of your burlap projects with me. Iwill put a Mr. Linky Burlap at the bottom of my post.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Lynn for your generosity and for your tremendous kindness. I so appreciate your thoughtfulness!!! I sincerely do. BIG HUGS,  friend!
Thanks to all of you who participated in Thrifty Thursday, be is comments, link love, and spreading the love by visiting other bloggers. I am giving huge props to Kammy, who I beleive visited plum near everyone on the list. Thanks Kammy! And thank you to all who also made the visited all of the thrifty chics! I, myself am still making the rounds so be patient with me as I swing by. I like to take my time and study and visit. Thank you so much!
Lisa at Pickles and Cheese gave me the "Honest Scrap" Award.
Yes, Pickles and Cheese. I think we might be related.
And Gwen of Murphy Grace bestowed me with the Lemonade Award.

Here are the rules I need to follow:
1) Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award.
2) Share "10 Honest Things" about myself.
3) Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.
4) Tell those 7 people they've been awarded and inform them of these guidelines in receiving.

Here are 10 things about me....
1. I am very indecisive.  Or to borrow a line from Jimmy Buffet, "Indecison may or may not be my problem".
2. I really do want to try out the roller derby thing, just to say I did it. Life is to short to have regrets. I have gotten clearance to take a turn in the rink with my local roller team. I plan to do it before I turn 40. That gives me 10 months to stock up on body pads and more insurance.

3. I love to fish (preferably salt water), and I like to cook what I catch.
4. I love, love, love music and I love, love, love to dance. Whether I am good at either one of these depends on alcohol consumtion. I won't say whether I am talking about yours or mine. And really, does it matter?
5. I am working on a novel, but who isn't? I also enjoy writing stories, songs and poetry, though much of it I haven't shared with anyone.
6. I have five dogs. I take in stays, be it human or animals. I can't help it.
7. I love to travel and explore new places. I also like to try out new restaurants.
8. I am germaphobic, which I credit to my rare occurance to get sick.
9. I am afraid of heights. Even if I see something on TV, a location that is a high point, I can feel myself tense up and panic inside. Yet, one day I would love to push myself to parasail.
10. I take pictures every single day. I love to capture emotion and moments through my lens.

I would like to pass on the Honest Scrap & Lemonade Award to all of you.........Each one of you who reads this. I find inspiration in your blogs, your encouragment, your laughter, your sharing of your daily lives that so many can relate to, and most of all your friendship. Thank you for taking the time to share your day with me. Thank you for your following. Thank you for your comments.
Sincerely, I appreciate each and everyone of you!

At Plates and Places today I am serving up some Apple Dumplings, made easy peasy!
