Outdoor Wednesday-Plus a Reminder!

Welcome to Bloggeritaville! Today is Outdoor Wednesday! Outdoor Wednesday is hosted by the most gracious- Susan of Southern Daydreamer. For my OW post, I thought I would share some scenes from last Sunday's Homestead Hollow Festival in Springville, Alabama. I love a festival in the fall! Homestead Hollow is an arts ad crafts festival, but there is also lots of food, kids entertainment and music. It's fun for the entire family. There were many great crafts available for purchasing, but what I took home was a 5 lb bag of stone ground corn meal, perfect fixings for that perfect cornbread. Ever wonder why your cornbread doesn't taste as good as your grandma's? Sure, she put some love into it, but it's also the cornmeal. Once you buy the stone ground cornbread, you will never go back to what you find at the grocier. Commerical companies take out the corn oil  in their packaged meal to preserve the shelf life. This makes your cornbread dry and less crispy. If you can, purchase the stone ground cornmeal for a fresher, better tasting cornmeal. You'll be glad you did. What a difference it makes! (Just be certain to always store the non commercial cornmeal in your freezer!!!) For my Four+ Generation Cornbread recipe, visit my food blog, Plates and Places. It's what momma, and her momma, and even her momma cooked. And it's the recipe this momma also uses. YUMMY!
Enjoy the scenes from Homestead Hollow....

(They don't really do this today at the Hollow. But it did make me think of my girl, Loretta. Yes, that Loretta.)

I invite you to join me tomorrow for Thrifty Thursday.
Until then, Happy Fall Y'all!
Thanks for taking the time to drop by, leave me a "roadmap".
HUGS!

Love those birdhouses. I haven't had really good cornbread in a long time. My grandma taught me once how to make but I didn't do it often and can't remember the recipe she used. Of course I never wrote it down, that would make me too organized!

All the photos are fabulous, Leigh, but that row of colorful birdhouses, wow! I'd love to see that one framed! Love it!

I'm going to have to try your 'real' cornbread recipe. I only know the sweet-ish recipe, which I know isn't "kosher," so to speak! :-)

Looks like a fun festival. Glad they don't do the hog butchering on site anymore!

Those are the most gorgeous birdhouses I've ever seen! We went to Homestead Hollow last year for the first time since I was a little kid...it was so fun! Maybe I can catch next month's ...

That must be the reason why some cornbread is just plain lousy and others are to-die-for.

Looks like a nice day to take photos at the festival! They are lovely.

I am new to blogging and have read yours for a while now. I live north of Springville and usually attend the "Hollow". I always took my daughter with me who passed away in July and could not bring myself to go without her :( Too many memories and I didn't think I could "handle" it this year. Thanks for sharing your pics with me! I love the birdhouses.
