Road Trip-Cullman

What's not to love about a day spent with your mom, pouring over other peoples "trash and discards", antique hardware, doors, windows, faucet knobs and such? That was just what I did on Saturday. Mom and I drove up to Cullman for a girls day, but not before we hit some neighborhood garage sales in her area. We did well...but I will save that for this week's Thrifty Thursday.
Garage Sales behind us we we made our way to SOUTHERN ACCENTS ARCHITECTURAL ANTIQUES, INC. It's just what it says, a salvage store that is actually two buildings chalked full of wonderful reclaimed doors, windows, mantels, and hardware. It is treasures mucho. I posted about this store here. I could spend an entire day at this store. I took many photos, to many to post, so I created a slideshow of what can be found at Southern Architectural Salvage as well as a few other places of interest in Cullman.

I will share what I purchased on Thrifty Thursday.
For lunch we were certain to stop in for a meal at one of my favorite restaurants: All Steak. It was a toss up between the southern country fare or chick food. I favored the chic food on the expansive menu and chose a tossed salad, a cucumber and tomato salad and strawberry salad. Mother went country with a veggie plate that came with chicken and dressing, field peas, cucumber tomato salad and fried green tomato's. Our meals came with the heavenly yeast rolls and orange rolls. I am still having dreams of that meal. Oh, so good!
While in Cullman we also shopped til we dropped at these stores: WhoopseyDaisy, GladRags Clothing, Mary Carter General Store, and Three Pears Shoe Outlet.
At Three Pears, mom fell in love with a purse. A little background: my mother has a mule. A real live, mule. Named Kate. She rides it. Umm. Hmm. She loves it dearly and goes on trailrides often.
The purse was made from refurbished boots. And it spoke to mom. Mom loved the purse-and what a conversation piece. I talked her into buying it. My mom is one who doesn't do for herself. Had I wanted the purse, she wouldn't have thought twice to buy it for me, but for herself, it took some prodding. The sales lady was so kind, not over bearing or persistent, but she told mom that she needed that purse to pack her sandwich in for her trail rides. Sold. I am certain that come next trail ride, there will be many orders for the boot purse by mom's horse riding buddies.
I am glad she bought it for herself. I am certain it is something she will use for years to come. And because it is made from real leather, as it wears it will only improve! (I am going to have to talk to my friend Jennifer, at Wildflower Wax about stocking this! Perfect for her store).

We had a wonderful day, as it always is with good company and fun road trips!

Goodness, this set of attractions are even further away from the coast. I'm going to have to spend a month in Alabama in order to see all that I want to see.

I can't wait until Thursday!!

Grrrrrrrrr...I'm jealous. I would love to hanging out for a few hours in that store! You had me at "spindles." Maybe once this school stuff is done (hopefully by the end of Sept) I can get back to creating and blogging!

Have a great week, Leigh. Stop by and check out my latest project that I FINALLY finished.

Y'all have got the neatest stores. I need someone to map me out a day trip in Georgia. I'm sure we have got some good ones, too, but I don't know where they are.

Ooooo, what a fun place. Can't wait to see what you found. Sounds like some fun shopping.

My dad's family lives in Athens/Madison, so I remember seeing the Cullman exit while driving by when we were growing up. Maybe one day we will get back over that way and make a stop.

Your blog makes me miss travel so much. Really great purse! I've seen some similar before, but not done as well. So sad I missed you today. Let me know how the t-shirt looks and if you think it needs any changes!

I did a post yesterday about the follower section and then have an update on the newest post that went up last night. I think some people think since their picture is showing that everything is OK but that is not necessarily true.
