Thrifty Thursday-Plus a Tablescape

Ba-da-da daaaaah!
Welcome one, welcome all to Thrifty Thursday here in Bloggeritaville. It's also Tablescape Thursday so it has to be a party! Grab yourself a Thrifty Thursday button and let's get started!
For those that don't know, Thrifty Thursday is a show and tell of sorts. It is time for you to showcase your thrifty find. It can be an old find or a new one. It might be something that you found at a thrift store, a consignment store, flea market, garage/yard sale, antique store. It's it was a thrifty find, then it meets the requirements. I am not picky, It can be a great pair of boots & a killer vintage dress, jewelry, home decor, even fishing lures. It is your thrifty find. Tell me about it. Where did you find it? What is it? What do you plan to do with it or how do you plan to use it in your home? Do you want to sell it? Thrifty Thursday's are about the thrill of the hunt...and the treasure you found. So....do show and tell!
Today for Thrifty Thursday I am going to take you into the bedroom. My bedroom.
The love nest.
It's where Big Daddy and I retreat to escape these characters:

Who am I kidding? Sometimes I retreat to get away from this guy too:

But it's all in love. And in the name of sanity.
Are you ready? It's nothing special, but it is full of thirty finds.
Welcome.....
What? Whahhhh? Did you expect shag carpeting, black lights, silk sheets, velvet bedding and swings?

Well, then you had me pegged all wrong. And most certainly Big Daddy. HA!
I said I go here to escape! To get away from it all. Again, nothing glamorous. In fact, very unglamorous. But it is cozy. And a perfect place to snuggle. I am big on snuggling, as most women are. I like to snuggle. Like with that little sweet "thang" sitting on the end of the bed. That's Miley.

She's very good at it. She thinks that bed belongs to her. I don't dare tell her any different.
Back to the tour. My bed is actually a thrift store find. I purchased it many years ago at the Goodwill for $200.00. It was actually intended to go in one of the kids bedrooms, but I haven't found the bedroom furniture that I want yet, so for now, it's in mine.
The bedding is also thrifty.
I have two bed skirts on my bed. One, the ball fringe one, I spotted and fell in love with in Ballard Magazine. But when I saw the almost $200.00 dollar price tag, I knew it was not to be. And then I found it.....years ago. I can't even recall where, but it was the same thing and I bought it for almost nothing. It was new. If I recall correctly I might've done some cartwheels as I made my way to the register to purchase it.
The Battenberg comforter at the end of the bed, as well as the battenberg shams and dust ruffle were given to me from my dear cousin Beckie. She has the best "cast offs". I can only hope that I am around first when she begins to toss things. This set used to be in her lake home. (Thanks Beckie, love you!)

The matelasse quilt on the top of the bed was a thrift store find. It still had the tags on it (yes! I washed it anyway!) It is from the "Hotel Collection" and cost me a whole $23.00. I love the whimsical pattern on the quilt.

The pillows:
The "B" was a green clearance item from Kirklands, $6.99. I LOVE, I mean puffy heart all things monogrammed, and as I have said I have the hardest time finding "B" stuff so I was really excited to find it, and on sale-that was a bonus. The gold paisley pillow was a Hobby Lobby find last weekend. It was $8.00 (80% off). Be sure and seek out those aisles, they are worth it.

I didn't get a good picture of my nightstand, but it is a huge antique trunk that belonged to my great grandparents. Big Daddy's bedside table is a marble topped nightstand, a antique store find.

Sadly, you cannot see the pictures above the nightstand, but I got them at Penny's. They have a very "New Owwwlynn's" (New Orleans) feel to them. Think the grand hotel terraces with the wrought iron fencing. On Big Daddy's night stand is a mermaid that I got from EBay for my daughter, who collects mermaids. I don't know how it found it's way to my room? Kids...
Yep. Years ago. Many, many moons ago.
LOL. Thirteen years ago. See the way he looked at me?
Yes, he might get sucker punched in the bathroom at work but it was sweet. It was the look of love, Of admiration. Of.....
Confession, I had to make him pose like that.
I saw a picture, seriously, in the 80's of Parker Stevenson and Kirsty Alley. Remember when they were married? Well, I saw a picture of them posed like that in People magazine ions ago and wanted the same pose. I carried the picture around for years, before the days that beach photos were all the rage and photographers a dime a dozen. When Big Daddy and I moved to Sarasota Florida, I was a preschool teacher. My class had class photos and I asked the photographer if he would take mine and Big Daddy's portraits on the beach. He did. It was hot day, miserably hot, and bright! It was all we could do to keep our eyes open as we baked and sweat more than a pig in a butcher shop. The photographer scheduled us, at what I know as a photographer, the worst time of day to take beach pictures. We also hauled the dog and the six year old kid (Bama). Unhappy folks. Many unhappy folks. Needless to say, to this day I still haven't heard the end of it. And I have that lovely picture bedside to remind of us of that experience.
Clearly, we need some updated portraits. Heck, I am a photographer! Why is it that I can't get my own family to cooperate? I tell you hwy....men. I live with three of them. Now, you can see why I like to escape to my bedroom.
Umm, hmm. Love at it's best.
Finally, I want to show you this french candelabra that was a thrift store purchase.
The little crystals came on it.
It has a marble base with sweet little feet.
How cute! I paid $6.88 for it.
I have had it for far to long not to have put candles in it and allow it to shine as it should. Shame on me. I will do it soon.
Grab yourself a Thrifty Thursday button (at the top pf this post and on the sidebar), and link up your blog and we'll have ourselves a little show and tell, Thrifty Thursday Party! You're invited!

And now, for my contribution to Thursday's Tablescape.....

My friend Susan of Between Naps on the Porch host the Thursday Meme called Tablescape Thursday. I find Susan very inspirational. And my goodness, her porch! I'd love to nap there myself. Anyway, I am playing along today in Susan's Tablescape Thursday.
And I cheat yet again today. This tablescape is from a store in Homewood called, Harmony Landing (who I just recently found out the logo was created by fellow blogger, Joy). Harmony Landing always has creative ideas, the entire store is a pleathy (I think I made up a word?) of inspiration.
For example this spring tablescape. I love it because it is simple. I have a bounty of white dishes, many of it ironware, that I have collected the thrift store. They work in so many ways and themes.

This tables uses basic white dishes and couples those with bright spring colors, as in the placemats and napkins and accessories. Little birds nest were put on each plate, a certain sign of spring. And a sweet gift to give, if you hosted a luncheon.
It's a basic table, perfect to build on. This could be Easter, spring, easily made into a beach or summer theme...the possibilities are endless.
Thanks to all for participating in Thrifty Thursday! And thank you to those who have popped by from Susan's Blog, Between Naps on the Porch. I love new friends!
Join me for next week's Thrifty Thursday!
UPDATED EDIT: My apologies, but I am going to request that you do not click the last entry on the Thrifty Thur called Athella. I have had a couple people have issues with that link. I am sorry if you are Athella, but because of the problems, and computer issues I don't want to contaminate anyone's computer with a potential problem. I don't know how to delete a link from Mr. Linky. I wanted you to use caution. By no means am I saying that link has problems attached to it, but because several had problems (myself included) I wanted to forewarn.
I will be responding to comments later today (even though I did personally through email, I just like to here as well). Thank you all for leaving one! It means alot)

The picture of Big Daddy "looking" at you is a pure "Awwwwwww" moment.

If you get this comment twice (I thought I already posted it, but it isn't here) PLEASE delete one of them!!!

There was so much in your post! Goodness. I love that the mermaid is on your husbands side of the bed - makes me laugh. The candelabra is gorgeous and I loved the sepia toned picture and the slight angle. A photographers eye for sure.

I love being a part of Thrifty Thursday. Thanks for putting it together.

thanks for stopping by my blog. I have visited you before...probably just didn't leave a comment. Shame on me! I have the same monogram pillow on my bed...just with a K.....
The tree card holders were also from Target after Christmas. I believe they "went" with the white bird dishes.

All of the pictures are just gorgeous! That table is so adorable... I was just in Kirkland's today and I didn't find anything. :( But I did score big time at Ross and Pier 1!

Great choices for today!

Thanks Leigh for letting me play along on Thrifty Thursday with my recipe! It doesn't exactly fit your theme though.

I adore your bedroom and all the wonderful thriftiness on your bed.

Your kids are darling and that's an awesome portrait of them. Love the photo of you and hubby too. I'm from FL originaly and know first hand the pain of photos on the beach in blazing sun.

Now I'm off to visit the other thrifty ladies! ♥

Hi,

Thanks for the visit to my blog, it's always nice to meet someone new. I wish I could take pictures as great as yours, our daughter is the one in the family who always takes the good pictures, so I rely on her. I'll have to come back and check out more of your blog. Have a great day.

As always, an inspiring post from Bloggeritaville! Sorry I couldn't participate in Thrifty Thursday this week, but I just couldn't think of anything particularly thrifty. Maybe next week I'll do the furniture in our guest bedroom - dad and I refinished it ourselves!

I agree...I like the versatility of white plates, and they do look so great against bright colored placemats, like these lovely, vividly shaded green ones. Very pretty! I LOVE your thrifted candleabra too! That was a super lucky find! And, of course, the photo of you and your husband is just perfect...I truly loved reading the story behind it as well, so cute! :-)

Oh how I enjoyed this post! It was great fun looking at your thrifting finds in your bedroom. Heck, I could like to you with my Tablescape post today because many of the items I show are from thrift stores!

I truly laughed out loud at your "posed" picture on the beach...I mean not the picture itself ~~ it's charming and romantic, but the way you made your husband pose! Too funny!

I also loved your cute, springy tablescape.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I really enjoyed our visits today.

Your bedroom is AWESOME. It's a haven. Mine is a disgusting mess. LOL! All the clutter from the main part of the house gets thrown in our room when unexpected visitors show up and that's where it stays! haha :)

Hi Leigh,
Thanks for stopping by and visiting me. I have enjoyed meeting you. First, I love your table. It is adorable and the fresh green color makes me long for warmer days when my lawn will once again be green rather than yucky brown. I really like your thrifty bedroom finds. I love to find a bargain. My motto is "Never pay full price for anything!" Especially love the little pillow with the "B". I have a thing for monograms. All smiles in NC,

I SWEAR, I've been meaning to join in on this because I've got so much junk, I mean stuff, to show off! Next week, NEXT WEEK! And thereafter.

BTW, Hobby Lobby is one of my all-time FAVORITE stores! I got all of my bed pillows there, and when they have the 1/2 off sales, you just can't beat the deals! It's also my favorite place for scrapbook supplies. Sigh.

Your post is making me laugh my head off..."...It was all we could do to keep our eyes open as we baked and sweat more than a pig in a butcher shop..." Hahahahaha! :-)

If I were to come to your house, I'm fairly sure I would distract you long enough to make off with your ball fringe skirt. ;-) The bed itself (STUNNING!) may be a bit more difficult.

I scored a doozie of a thrifty find today. Will try to get my act together for Thursday...

I have had such a fun time "chatting" with some great people, you included. Thanks again!

Linda-Thanks Girl!!! But let me tell you what happened, the other night when I was laying in bed, I felt by bed moving! I got up and looked underneath and two of my dogs were pulling on that bed skirt and it had separated from the seam! I could kill them! I don't sew. I am going to have to find someone who does. To top it off, I put the puppy (who was pictured in the post) into bed with me. A bit later I heard a noise that only brings terror....sounds of her trying to vomit. I sat up and blap........as if she were channeling the exorcist, she threw up all over my bed. Not a little......it was all over the quilt!! I had to get up and change the sheets and wash them. So much for rest, Thank goodness it came out. Welcome to my world. LOL!

To all of you, thank you for stopping by, for levaing comments and if you played along- BIG HUGS! I hope to see you again next week!
