Excuse Me While I Brag...

Excuse me & forgive me, I have to brag a bit. I have family that read my blog and want to spread the news....and do my part as a mother and brag a bit on my children.
My son, J. Smooth, wrestled his last match this past weekend. His last in what was his every first season ever to wrestle. He started out with little confidence in himself....and ended the season, learning a very important lesson. To believe in yourself and the rest will follow.
Wrestling is a bit different than typical team sports. While you are on a team, you compete as individuals. You have to believe in yourself and be willing to give it your all in practising and going the distance. There is no where to hide when one is on a mat with your opponent. It is quite a humbling experience. And a nerve racking one for moms, though there are no real injuries (as in football & basketball). The boy are all well trained. I highly recommend the program. There will be a forthcoming post on more of the wrestling program that J. Smooth competes at a later date.
That being said.....
Saturday was the State wrestling tournament. The biggie.
My son, "J. Smooth", finished third in his weight class.
In the state. The entire state.

His very first year (many of the kids he competes against have been wrestling for 2 or 3 years)
I am so proud.
And while I am bragging.....
My oldest son, "Bama", along with his classmates in broadcasting at his high school, competed in an academic competition, The State of Alabama Press/Broadcast Journalism Competition at the University of Alabama. His school broadcasting department submitted a tape of their school broadcast and it placed third in the state. I can't say to much for embarrassing Bama. He critiques what I can say about him on my blog. And he doesn't know that I am putting this on here, but I am a proud mom! What can one expect?
(Picture of Bama giving J. Smooth a pep talk before one of his matches.)
Forgive me. I am just beaming and couldn't help myself.
On Saturday night I had the honor of having been contracted to photograph a fun event. It was a fundraiser of a local catholic school. It was quite entertaining. I was so impressed with the decorations. The theme was "Boot Scoot Boogie". When I say that the place was transformed, I mean it. It was a great time, great food, dancing to great music, provided by my old high school chum (and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet) Matt Hill of the Matt Hill Band. I hope to post a few pictures of that so you can see the amazing decor soon.
Be sure to visit my photography blog, I have new portraits up from a recent session.
Hungry? Trying to figure out what to fix tonight for supper? Stop by my recipe blog for one of my favorite vegetable dishes, rustic roasted vegetables. It pairs perfectly with beef, pork and chicken as a main entree, but the dish could easily be a main dish alone. It is very filling. And you could always add chopped meat of your preference to this colorful meal.
Finally, if you missed my last post, I am asking that you keep the family of Eli in prayer. I was saddened to hear of the loss of the nephew of my blogger friend, Amy. Please lift them in prayer at this sad time.
Thanks for stopping by Bloggeritaville! I always enjoy your visit.

Brag all you want! I don't know much about wrestling, but I love watching it--the REAL stuff, not that fake mess on TV. If I had a son, I'd want him to wrestle. Like you said, it teaches self-confidence as well as discipline, hard work, and perserverance. If you mess up, there is no one to blame except yourself.

I expect J. Smooth will be winning trophies for years to come!

YAY for Smooth! My son is participating in wrestling for the first time this year. We kinda talked him into trying something new. He actually likes it! Although he's built like a toothpick! :-)
