White Elephant Antiques

On my recent trip to Mentone, we visited one of my favorite antique stores, The White Elephant. Located in a grand old mansion (or hotel ? I really need to find out the story of the building!) it is chocked full of treasures, most of which I find very reasonably priced.
There are many vendor booths. It was fun to visit each one. Many were decorated for Christmas.
Let me take a moment and point out that jar with pinecones....I bought one tonight- the exact jar (huge!) with glittery pinecones at Home Goods for $24.00! They also had some with red balls and ones with silver balls (I had a hard time deciding). What a steal! I have priced the jars (empty) other places and was thrilled to find it. So, if you are looking for one.... heads up!
Back to antiquing.....
In the very back of the building, on the floor to the side of a table, I found this box of dollar linens! Be still my heart!

I bought 7 pieces of mostly fingertip towels. I love the ones that are hand embroidered.
$1.00 each!

I also found this child's folk art chair, painted in Mexico. It was $8.00! I absolutley adore it, but don't know where to put it. I may end up selling it on ebay. But it's soooo cute!

And finally, a little spoon for my collection of silver pieces. It was $4.00.

On the day we went, the White Elephant was having a holiday open house, and was serving all kinds of homemade goodies. So we snacked and shopped.

If you are ever in Mentone, I highly suggest you pay a visit. You never know what you will find!

I think I need to make a trip to Mentone sometime. I need to look it up on the map. We have family and friends in Pensacola, so we go there often. Is it close or on the way?

Looks like a wonderful place, Leigh. I hope you find out the history of the building. It would be great to hear more about it.

I always dig through linens at antique shops. I've found some pretty things for little money. I love the embroidered pieces.

The apothecary jars at Hobby Lobby have been whispering my name when I go in. I thought of buying a couple for shells and held off. Seeing the pine cones inside of the jar is making me "pine" for a shopping trip to Hobby Lobby.

The Linens are wonderful - I can't pass up vintage table clothes.

And the spoon... is that an Eastern Star Emblem engraved on the handle? My parents are lodge members and have lots of Eastern Star paraphenalia.
