Weekend Celebrations

I added two new birdhouses to my garden, courtesy of my two youngest in the circus. Every first Saturday of the month Home Depot host a Kids workshop. And it's FREE! My kids had a blast, along with their cousin making the birds in our neighborhood houses. It was my nephew's first trip and hand at building. It was a joy to watch him with his daddy.

We will extend the crafting this week.....I bought some paints at a local hobby shop and will allow the kids to give a custom paint job for their birdhouse. Mark your calendar (First Saturday of the month at all Home Depot's) for this free event. Designed for kids 5-12, these free workshops teach do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while instilling a sense of accomplishment. Offered on the first Saturday of each month between 9 a.m. and noon* at The Home Depot®. And did I mention, it is a great way to spend a Saturday morning with your child? ....Lots of smiles in my group. Click here for future projects.

Wasn't the weekend weather fabulous? It was down south. Usually in my neck of the woods the average temperature is in the lower to mid 90's, but this weekend, it felt much like spring or early fall. Humidity was low and nights were cool. It was perfect. We took advantage of the weather and carted the kids to the park and let them wade in the creek. The adults got their toes wet too.

Lastly, I have to make mention of going with my family to watch the fireworks in my town. It was a great production, attended by large numbers of people. Somehow we managed to find some of our friends in the mass and celebrate aside one another. As the fireworks began to blast overhead my nephew (who is 4) was beside himself with excitement. "MORE! MORE! MORE!" he yelled between blast. "It's Spiderman webs!" he shouted as he likened the display to a superhero. I couldn't watch the fireworks for the precious and innocent excitement of my nephew. Though I know the city fireworks were great, the display of my nephew and the joy that protruded from that little body was it for me. The joy in his eyes and laughter of excitement was contagious. And I thanked my lucky stars, for being his "Uncle Leigh" (that's what he calls me...LOL) and an American. God is good!! I cannot help but be excited for my Lord and the gifts He gives me....sometimes wrapped in a fireworks display.

Hope your week is filled with lots of joy and smiles!

Nancy-It was priceless.

Mrs Schmitty-LOVE them. Fabulous idea. We had HomeDepot come to our local Kids Festival and do the workshop there and it went over fabulous. Really, I think it was the best booth there. Love HD.

Trickie-Yes, mam.

MIchelle-Thanks! I think the same of yours. And soooo proud of Whit!

Giants Fan-they can start going ealry. I would say even around 4....with dad or mommmys help can bang on the nails. It's a great community service that HD does.
