Visiting Grandma and Grandpa is indeed Grand

I made it home! On Thursday "the fam" and I trekked to Indianapolis, Indiana for a family wedding of cousin Julie. We arrived a day early so that we could spend some time with Big Daddy's grandparents,"G&G" who were to feeble to attend the wedding. It was wonderful to see them both. Grandpa had a brain aneurysm last fall and at age 93 (he'll be next week) he is certainly a fighter, though not the man I posted about not to long ago. He is now very feeble, and now very quiet. He is depressed, after being very active up until last fall, it has hit in hard. After being an outdoor person most of his life, planting his own gardens and in recent years, paying visits to elderly neighbors in the community that he lives. It is for this reason that he is referred to at the "Mayor" of his community for his activeness.
I was saddened to see that age finally caught up to him. For the three trips that we made to Grandma and Grandpa's home on this weekend visit, Grandma consistently rattled off her wishes when they should pass, where things are, what she wants to give to who. I felt a bit uncomfortable not only because I am not the proper one to execute such wishes but because it became more and more apparent to me that she knew (at their ages) they were both on borrowed time. At the same time, I am relieved that they both have come to accept it. I think at some point in life, if you have the pleasure of living to an old age, you get tired and ready to be with the Lord. It was wonderful to see them both and I took delight in seeing them hold their great grandchildren. No words were needed, their faces said it all, they were overjoyed. I am so thankful that we got to spend the time with them, though short, it was time well spent.
