Yesterday I got a phone call from a girl that I drew up with. It was Kim, she wanted to know the name of my childhood next door neighbor that was killed this past year while serving in the military. She was asking about Nick. Kim did not ever have the pleasure of knowing Nick or his lovely family, but she wanted to get his mother's phone number so that she and her two young children could call on Memorial Day and say "Thanks" and "We Remember your Sacrifice" to his family. How wonderful and moving a thing to do!!! I was so touched that I began to cry when she told me her intentions. She wanted to teach her children exactly what Memorial Day is really about.
And so, on this day, Do not forget to remember why we celebrate. Remember.
For more on my friend, Nick's story-his life and how he gave his life serving in the military,
click here. Serving his country was something Nick was passionate about. And I am sure if Nick were here today, he would say he would serve again without hesitation.
So, today, to Nick and to all those that have served or are currently serving-
We Remember.
Thank you!

A high school friend of mine, Chris, is currently serving in the military. He's going over to Iraq sometime soon and I worry for him, but I also honor what he's choosing to do. Sounds like Nick and Chris would have gotten along quite well.
Our freedom is not free, and when we pause to remember that it is sobering indeed.
My brother in law returned home on Wednesday after his second tour in Iraq. We're very happy he made it home safely!
My respect and gratitude for all that choose to serve in the military.
I honor your friend Nick and thank him for his service and his sacrifice.
Thank you to you all for your kind words! I hope you had a wonderful Memorial weekend.
