High School Reunion?

This summer is the season for twentieth high school reunions. Well, it is for me, anyway. I can't say that I have feeling positive about it either. It doesn’t make me feel young and hip to say, “I just graduated from high school twenty years ago.” It seems like yesterday, especially as my oldest child is preparing to be a senior himself.
I can't say I do not care to see people, there are quite a few that I would love to see and reminisce with, but only if I could lose some 30-40 pounds-overnight. Is that asking to much? Apparently so, because my body just isn't wanting to part with any extra pounds that have attached themselves to the ole bod in the past 10 years. God knows I I've tried. Getting older sucks because that high metabolism I used to have has picked up and moved on to another fortunate 17 year old. Ahhh, yes, I remember the days-the daily actually- of driving to McDonalds or Krystals buying a large fry and washing them down with a tall coca cola.

(senior photos of Leigh and Big Daddy {ain't he cute}, circa 1988)

Those days are over. Just thinking about it has caused me to gain 4 pounds. It seems like just yesterday that I was fastening my extra wide belt over hips I didn't have and dancing around to Borderline. True. It might have actually been yesterday, though now I have hips. And a butt. And boobs.....and they have all started packing up to move south.
But then I haven't decided if I am going to go. Will I be able to handle it-the reunion. Do I really want to see people I haven't seen in 10-20 years? Many I would love to catch up with, but only if I can go in with a paper sack over my head. I have seen the class reunion web site of my peers-they all look the same. Fabulous.
They look great and I would love to see them-like Scottie, Jeannie, Staci, Freddy, John, Virginia, Susan, Karen and my dear Janet-all of them look like a million bucks. Haven't aged. As if they all have been vacationing for the last 20 years in St Augustine at the Fountain of Youth. Them in their swim caps. And then there is me in my big baggy sweats. Embarrassing. Big Daddy (who graduated in the same class as I) could care less about going -or not. Tickets to our reunion are $75.00 and if you read the blog, you know Big D is a tight wad. So the decision is up to me.
And then there is the frantic search of what to wear. Something to look Hip. precious. T-H-I-N, much like Kate Hudson. Where can I purchase that? Suggestions of apparel ideas? It is a "business casual " function. It is also a nightmare nighttime event. Seriously, it freaks me out. So I have given you some food for thought-help me dress. Send me a link or picture of your suggestions. I will post suggestions and we can vote on the best look. I will leave you with that thought, while I go and take a mild sedative with a glass of something with "proof" on the label...

I didn't go to my 20th, but did to my 15th. I can relate to all your pre-reunion angst. However, I spent a lot of time in prayer over mine and the results were quite interesting. If you want to hear - - - e-mail me and I'll fill you in on some of the details.

I hope your reunion turns out to be wonderful.

Oh Leigh! I think you look fabulous just the way you are. I have like 3 basic black dresses that are my fall back outfits. Good luck!

Last year I went to a fairly casual high school reunion. I left High School 32 years ago and I was so glad I went. It was surprising how many people looked exactly the same. I say take a big deep breath and go along. What's the worst that can happen?

Loved your High School photos. What a beauty you were and you still are (both of you). Go along and knock their socks off.

I feel the same way you do! Our class hasn't got together at all since we left! There are a few people I would like to see but I other than that...I just don't feel the need! So maybe we'll never have one! HA! I sound so mean and rude! I've gained weight too! I'm fat and hating myself! I really want to lose weight but my mouth, tummy and brain don't work well together! I need some team work here...team work BODY! =)

I've just been lazy! I come home after work and I'm dead tired! No energy! It's sad! Two different times this week I've come home and went to sleep as soon as I walk in the door at 5pm! I think this past weekend kicked my butt!

I want to go walking at dusk or at least ride the bikes we just bought but we never do! I'm not going by myself!

I want to drop 30-40 pounds! I hate being this big!

Okay! Enough about that!
What to wear, what to wear?
Heck I don't know...I will leave that up to someone else? Go to the store! Try on some outfits...take pics in them and then post! Let us vote! =)

Hmmm...I just graduated high school about 4 years myself and honestly, I wouldn't really worry about how I looked. "Easy for you to say!" you might say, but I'm not exactly a twig myself, lol.

I'd just go and try to focus more on talking to those people you really want to see and if it starts to get duddy or boring, you can always leave a little early.

BTW - - - BOTH of you look GREAT in the Sr. px - - - and still do.

I have a great friend, Joy, who says like great cheese and wine we age well. Sometimes she says we are pickles - - - well preserved.

:-)

Well, since I'm two years away from my 40th, I just can't muster up any sympathy, you young thing! I loved my 20th reunion. That's the only one I attended. I didn't drink on purpose and talked to people I hadn't seen in years. (Most of these people went to elementary school on up with me). Some others who did drink (and maybe some other stuff) probably don't remember the reunion. Well, except for one old friend who got married right after the reunion. That didn't last long.

I say go! Have fun and I'll bet you look more fabulous than them all! It should even be more fun since your husband was in the same class!

Leigh - strangely enough MY 20-year high school reunion is this year, too, and it costs $75!! What's up with that? I'm not about to pay $75 to see the bunch of idiots I went to school with. I am a bitter person.

They'll be waiting on you to get the party started, Leigh! You look so lovely in your senior pic. BTW - you might consider Macys free personal shopping services for such an occasion (if you're close to one).

well if you are really that worried about looking (word we cannot say) which you shouldn't be, get a pillow borrow a maternity dress and tell em all number 4 is on the way. Just don't drink that would kinda hurt the ole image a bit.

Keetha-I'd love to hear-email me.

Lindsey-You are to sweet. Thanks for the suggestion!

Gypsy-Thanks for the encouragment.

J-You make me laugh. I may do that -have a vote

snark-you are right on. I guess we can always leave. But on the ride home I would hear from Big Daddy what a waste of time and most importantly money it was. It would be a long ride.

thanks Keetha!

Thanks NancyGracey for the support.

Lulu-did we graduate together? Are you calling ME an idiot? LOL!

Mz Jules-Always knows the right thing to say. And a great suggestion. There is a Macys close by. I idnt know that service was free. And my uncle is a regional manager. He would whip my rear.GREAT idea!

Dullbert-that is the best idea yet! You are always full of them. Though I think I might need a drink my nights end if I were to go. Certinaly Big D would to have to go home with me (sniff, sniff) after seeing everyone elses aged nicely-or didnt age really.
I think I need a drink now come to think. HAHA!

Stop by my blog later and I'll leave a post regarging my 20th Berry High reunion and why you SHOULD go!

Well I think you look fantastic.

I went to my 20th and I'm considering going to my 30th in 2011. Of course that would mean I'd have to go back to California. Three years might be just enough time to convince myself that it's worth it.

LOL!

I'm glad to see you got over your mousse addiction! God love the 80's if only for the hair!!!!

I meant like an hour early or so, lol! That way, you were there long enough to get your money's worth but still left in time to save tourself from doing/and or saying anything embarrassing.

You crack me up, but I understand your concern. I have gained 12 pounds in the past 18 months; with Freddy’s reunion and my brother’s wedding in October I’m going to lose the weight. On what to wear to the reunion… I think you should start looking for anything that catches your eye and feels comfortable. If you find something but do not like the way it looks you probably won’t like the way it looks even after losing some weight (this has happened to me). Find something that you like now and feel great in so that if and when you lose some weight you’ll feel better in it, and when you go shopping don’t go on days you don’t like the way you look since you won’t like anything you try on. ...Z
