Are you searching for something just "so" to give to your sweetie?
How about sweets? I know just the person to help you...Tony Oddo of Roca Confections is a certified chocolatier. He knows his chocolate. Roca Confections has a multitude of HANDMADE quality chocolates in a variety of flavors for your Valentine sweetie. Roca also has cakes. Tony takes his time in perfecting the best quality chocolate, having his cocoa shipped into the US from France. His candy is sinfully good. After taking care of our loved ones be sure and purchase a bag as a gift for yourself. You'll be glad you did!!!
Roca's web site is still under construction, but you can call them to arrange to have your chocolates even gift wrapped. Roca Confections 202 Bowling Lane Pelham, AL 35124 (205) 982.1414 http://www.rocaconfections.com/ Please tell Tony that Leigh sent you. Get directions
Another suggestion is Edgars Bakery. The window cases are just gorgeous filled with much yummy delights. From cookies to lemon bars (My fav) to cupcakes and petifores, you cannot go wrong with a little treat from Edgars. http://www.edgarsbakery.com/
...............................................Or...make a cake yourself. Handmade gifts are the best way to go (in my opinion) hands down. I really hate, no despise, uh-lothe Valentines day and it is becaue of the commercial expectation to give. That being said, do not expect me to be saying to folks, go out and purchase jewels or other bogus stuff (sorry. No. I am not a member of the Heman Woman Haters Club. I know I will be bashed. Sorry my sister girls but tis true..). To me though, that stuff is really unnecessary and over the top in the grand scheme of things. But something homemade such as a card, a poem, a picture, something to remind a loved one of a special memory or homemade treats or dishes (sSee Bama's recipe below!!) is sure to score points. With me it does anyway. I would much prefer to have some homemade cookies and a kid made card to any diamond ring or otherwise. Because material things don't matter, but making memories does. It really shows you put forth effort, thought and love into coming up with a clever idea and making it. Neatness does not count. Effort counts.
Hope this helps. I am not Dear Abbey, so if all fails, don't blame me....but if all goes well, leave some feedback. Hope your over commercialized pointless day tomorrow is a good one. Happy V Day....
PS spell check still out.....

Dangnabit! And I finally picked something!
Good for you Hewy. I know she will love it no matter what it is. And you didnt wait till the last minute....to buy the wilted funeral carnation flowers (EWWW!) Good for you for thoughtful plannning. That alone will earn points. (There IS a point system BTW-though I am giving out secrest of the sisterhood. I may be sacrifised so I will stop here...)
First, I am so jealous of all the GREAT places you all have in Bama! Second, I totally agree with V-Day being a pointless, commercialized, totally thoughtless holiday created by man just for businesses to make more money! (Give me a sweet letter or card-homemade, not store bought and you've won my heart. Give me a thoughtless box of chocolates or flowers and you're sleeping on the couch!) Third, it is so funny that you posted about this, because I had already planned for my W-O-W to be about this same point. Great minds think alike! :)
Im not a big fan of Valentines Day either..Basically because as a child, there were waaay too many expectations..I cannot remember having a good one as a kid.. I remember my grandmother had a stroke around VDay when I was like 15.. Not a good memory.. I will say this though: I like how my hubby takes charge and says we are going out to eat somewhere nice like LEONARDO'S for it though.. hehe :)
Welcome to Our Lives (Amy) Yes, once you get beyond all the homes on wheels and dirt tracks it's a swell place (wink, wink...I say this tongue in cheek for how Alabama is depicted much of the time. We do have some cool joints)I couldn't agree with your entire most more....
MIchelle-I am so sorry about that. It would leave a bad memory. I hate to be such a pessimist. This is the only day all year I allow myself to be in such a way. Big Daddy is good too. Tonight, in an attempt to escape crowds, he and I are goin gto MY local favorite (Japanese)restaurant. I AM looking forward to that!! And no kids (smile)
Handmade and homemade can be a lot more thoughtful, I agree. The fact that Miss J will be baking cupcakes for us tomorrow makes me very proud...I'm looking forward to spending a quiet family dinner together at home.
Just another day to us ... but as I was reading, I already thought I'd post a comment about Edgar's and then, there it was! It's so out-of-the-way that people miss it ... really great goodies!!! We'll exchange a card, maybe order a pizza and just chill together ... our day is this Sunday when we will relax and watch the Daytona 500 together, just the two of us!!! To me, as happy as I am with LG, every day is a Valentine of sorts .. I just feel so lucky to have this charmed life.
Mrs. Jules-That sounds like a wonderful evening. I know the cupcakes will be delicious!! You have a gorgeous fmaily. You should be proud. I hope you have a wonderful evening.
Abbey-there is nothing better than sitting at home cozied up to the one who still makes your heart got pitter pat after so many years. Big Daddy and I will be together 13 years. My heart still skips a beat...
