Retirement in Gunterville?

Retirement in Guntersville? By Leigh Bratina

I am ashamed to say that I never knew what I was missing in Guntersville, Alabama. I soon found out! Just shy of a 2 hour trip fromthe city of Birmingham, Alabama, Guntersville has so much to offer. Guntersville offers a whole world of beauty and activities just waiting to be experienced. Lake Guntersville is a marvel of nature's wonderment. The 69,000 acre lake located in the North Alabama Mountain Lakes region, is a combination of water, mountains and trees. The water quality is good and the fishing is terrific. The city of Guntersville has approximately six miles of shoreline that encompasses 175 acres of park land. Much of the area is open space, open to the public for recreational use. While the lake is the city’s defining feature, the Appalachian foothills location makes Guntersville an ideal location for many outdoor activities. If fishing, swimming, or boating is not your thing, choose a lakeside hammock or mountain bike, golf course or hunting field, campsite or dramatic overlook. Eagles also make this area home. If you are lucky enough, you might be able to see flying or nesting eagles.
Lake Guntersville State Park features a resort hotel, campgrounds, golf course, boat rentals and hiking trails. Guntersville also boast a rich heritage in Native American and Civil War history. The the city museum offers a glimpse of the past through artifacts and exhibits. With all of it's attributes, It is no wonder that Guntersville was chosen by Relocate America in their list of “The 100 Best Places to Live in America”. With all of it's beauty, nature and historical benefits, if retirement at the beach doesn't work out for me and Tom (LOL), I will give Guntersville great consideration for a move at that time. It will certainly make a good plan B. But for now, it gives me a great and new vacation spot. See you on the lake!
