Room Inspiration

When Life Gives you Lemons...Make Lemonade.

I love that saying. I have often said, life is all about attitude. It's something I have been reminding myself of lately.

When my son, "Bama" came home from college, after his apartment was without power following the tornados, and school for the remainder of the spring semester cancelled, he was looking forward to being in his own space after a year of being away. But this was not to be.  His bedroom at home is actually half of our basement, finished out into a den, bathroom and bedroom. Its an area of my home that I don't go into, because I don't have reason to. But when "Bama" returned recently,  he discovered a major water leak in his room. We don't know how long it had been leaking. But Long enough.
The carpet on his bedroom floor was wet, the walls; bubbled sheetrock, the ceiling falling to the floor in some areas, and mold. Oh! Glorious Mold.
Good times.(Said with as much sarcasm I can muster up)
Bama has temporarily moved in with my parents, 15 minutes away. It's temporary but it's not good enough for my son, who wants to be back in his own bed...after being gone so long. And we look forward to having him home with us.
We filed a claim, and are in the process of repairs.

More good times.

However, I try and look at the bright side.
He needed new carpet. The day we moved into our home, eleven years ago our dog, unsure of her surroundings, chewed a big hole into a space at the door of his bedroom trying to escape.
I never did like the new paint color I chose. And now, someone will get to paint for me. :)

Lemonade.

So, as I begin to ponder ideas for Bama's space (that include a den and bedroom) I have tried to imagine a space that we will like and that will be comfortable for guest, when Bama is away.
Something like this...

I just adore this space! It's a space that promotes relaxing, with it's rustic and urban touches. There is alot of natural textures and materials in this space.....the bookshelves, the tables, the metal lamp, the barn wood coffee table, the velvet sofa and the natural rug. I think I will linger here for a long while with a good book, sipping lemonade. Hopefully the folks at AT HOME might over look me hiding in the corner, making myself at home.

I hope you will join me tomorrow....there is much to catch up on!

In the meantime...and speaking of lemonade....be sure to see what my daughter and her friends did this weekend to help tornado victims. It's over at my friend Hewy's blog, No Sleep in Helena.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this! Once the mess is cleaned up though - I bet you will have with the redo. :-)

I am sorry! :( I am still dealing with a leak issue, but mine is no where near as bad as yours. Hope everything goes smoothly.

Oh, what an unwelcome surprise for all of you. I hope you can redo it in the way you like. I know you're glad to have your son home safe.

These storms have had far reaching effects. I am glad he is home safely, even if still somewhat displaced.
That is a very inviting and comfortable looking room.
