Have you ever gone to a foreign country and just marveled at the details and architexture?
Probably so.
But it's also those small detials that can add such a dramatic effect. For example, look at this building in La Chapelle-D'Abondance, France.
Can you imagine what is would lose without the window boxes?
ALOT of charm and character would be missing.
Which is why I am trying to get my husband motivated to add window boxes to our home.
It's really and easy fix to add curbside charm to any home. Hang window boxes on the front of your cottage for a romantic look. Overflowing with lush annuals and punctuated with various textures and bursts of seasonal color, these containers will seamlessly blend your house and garden and instantly boost curb appeal.
Notice the details: Proper scale is essential when adding window boxes.
The planter should be the same width as the window to avoid a wimpy, barely there look.
And don't think you have to hang your window boxes, if your window sash is wide enough, you can set it directly inside like this one shown below:
But if window boxes are not your thing, you can apply these same ideas to potted plants. Who doesnt love a container garden?
Don't box yourself in. Think out of the box!

Leigh, you have radar! I've been trying to talk Ray into making me a few (okay a bunch) window boxes and now you handed me more ammunition! Thanks!
xoxo Pattie
I adore window boxes. When I was in Ireland, Wales and England they were everywhere...and it was spring so they were blooming like mad. I have always dreamed of having a house with window boxes. I have plants...but have never lived anywhere where window boxes fit. Loved the post...thanks for sharing. Happy Tuesday!
I love window box's but have them on the deck railing. I am trying to find a matching one to another one I also bought for the front porch railing. The look of window box's wherever they are is so inviting to me! Nice post!
I love window boxes! They really do add to curb appeal. However - I don't think they would look good on our current house, and even if they did, there is the problem of me keeping them alive!
Beautiful photos! Makes me want to have window boxes...it won't happen though since my house is more Tuscan style.
Well I survived the wedding this weekend for our daughter. It was truly magical. I've starting posting a few photos...with lots more to come in the next few days.
Still on Cloud 9...exhausted, emotional, but oh so happy!.
Hugs!

I love flower boxes. They seem more common in Europe than the U.S.

I to love window boxes...great post today...thanks for sharing...Pat H
When I was in Rome it was too cold for the windowboxes to be full and lush. One of the photographic bummers of my trip (but if that's all that bummed me out, then I was doing good!)
Great post!
