Thrifty Thursday #31

It's #30 of Thrifty Thursday! Hi! I am your host, Leigh. Thank you so much for stopping by and additional thanks to those who also participate in Thrifty Thursday! I am most delighted to have you join in..for it's YOU who makes it a "show and tell party". I also participate in Tablescape Thursday the host of that fun carnival is the Hostess with the Mostess...Susan of BetweenNaps on the Backporch. That's no lie or exaggeration, each week I visit Susan's porch and just long to be a guest at any of her tablescapes...especially those held on the porch.
If you do not know what Thrifty Thursday is or need more info on Thrifty Thursday you can go here. All I ask is that if you are participating in Thrifty Thursday is to use your direct hyper link, not blog address, so friends can go directly to your post. Don't forget to grab and post a button on your post too.
And please, don't forget to link back here to Bloggeritaville on your post so friends of yours can go and visit new friends that are participating in Thrifty Thursday! Thanks. (warning..I am a bit long winded today!!) Now onto Thrifty Thursday....
Well, Bama moved out last week. Whats a mother to do to keep her mind off of college life through the eyes of a young man...decorating. And Bama's room was the place to start. It was time for me to reclaim this room. After being Bama's room for most of his years of growing up, it would not be a exaggeration to say that it was a scary place. It's true what one says about "picking your battles", well I succumbed to the dirty room battle long ago. I just refused for the most part to go in. Even his friends commented on it, that bad. And he didn't care. I told Bama last week, "Your room better be clean enough so I can take in renters to pay for your tuition!". Well, it wasn't that when he left, though a hearty attempt was made....it came up short. Now it was my turn to step in. I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. It literally took me an entire day 7 AM-9PM. Yes, that bad. While it really can stand to be painted, currently I am painting the entire lower floor of my home, so Bama's room is at the bottom of the list.
I really wish I had taken a before photo, but for lack of embarrassment, I did not. I moved the bed, as well as his dresser, Threw out a full hefty bag of trash and cleaned and scrubbed. I then went shopping in my garage for a thrifty makeover. Something to get by (please ignore the all purpose basment room carpeting).
And this is what I ended up with. A little bed and breakfast type room....
Nothing in this room is new.
All of the items in this room are either thrifty finds, or were given to me free.
The bed itself, a $75.00 garage sale find. I feel like I overpaid for it, but it got it's money worth.
The valance is actually a scarf found at the thrift store. It is draped on a shower rod. Cost, 79 cents.
The bench at the end of the bed was purchased at a garage sale for $5.00.
The bedding is things I dug around for in my linen closet. My favorite is the burlap look comforter. It was purchased on clearance a couple years ago from Linens and Things. CHEAP. It is actually so very soft. Unbelievably soft and I love the texture.
The floral comforter was a Old Tim Pottery find, $30.00
There is the rocker that Grandpa needlepointed. What is the term for needle pointing? Stitched?
The needlepoint landscapes were given to me. My Aunt Merle stitched them herself. She passed away and the family gave them to me.
The child's chair came from Mexico. It was purchased from an antique store for $6.00.
The cross stitch B was a gift from my Aunt Reba, given to me when Bama was born. I plan to change the frame and have it matted. It looks it's age in that old frame, but remember I was digging and throwing things together.
And for the Tablescape Thursday. This past week was a bit hectic between moving Bama to college and Peg's 90th birthday celebration so I did not photograph a tablescape for this week. It is quite a shame too, because had I not been thinking about the delicious food my brother in law, The Artist and his wife, Mida prepared, I would have. They played host to my family and cooked up some mean Italian dishes: Pasta with meatballs, Traditional Manicotti and Pesto Manicotti. I told my brother in law that we'll have to have a redo so it can make the blog. He was so disappointed I didn't photograph.
So, because my eyes were bigger than my brain, I have inspiration photos, courtesy of Country Living. Doesn't an end of the summer picnic sound wonderful?
Or perhaps a picnic on the porch?

Just make certain to use those fresh berries to make a delectable dessert! YUM!

I invite you to visit my food & recipe blog,Plates and Places for Foodie Friday's and on Tuesday's for Southern Staples.
Thanks to all of you for stopping by and participating in today's Thrifty Thursday. Please use Mr. Linky below to link up your blog.

I am inpressed that you have already got your room looking cute. I just have a big old empty and CLEAN room!

Leigh - Great job on the bedroom. I felt like I was watching an episode of HGTV's "Decorating Cents" where they redesign a room for no money!! My son just started his senior year in high school so I will pulling this post out of the archives next year when he moves out and I need inspiration! Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my post!

Boy, won't Bama be surprised the first weekend he brings his laundry home for you to do! I hope he is close enough to visit once in a while, I know you already miss him.

I NEVER and I mean NEVER go in my kids' rooms. When I do, I go into a hissy fit! I chose not to wage that battle long ago.

I love the needlepoint landscapes. Florals are very common but I haven't seen many landscapes. Very cool! As is the whole room.

Glad you made it through the hectic time with flying colors.

Hey Leigh,
No sons, but 2 daughters who have left the nest. I've totally taken over their rooms and haven't looked back! :)
Nice job on the redo...

I love that you've got yourself a thrifty room! To me, a room isn't a room if it hasn't been thrifted.

I love the fan that I scored at a yard sale last weekend, so had to link to it today here! I'll be back later to check out all of the fabulous thrifty divas. :-)

Believe it or not -- it was our daughters room that
I thought would get us condemned by the board of health!

I shudder to even remember it!

Hi Leigh!

The room looks awesome! I personally love to redecorate with "Non-new" finds. It gives the room so much more warmth. Great job!
