Thrifty Thursday #30 Plus Tablescape Thursday

It's #30 of Thrifty Thursday! Hi! I am your host, Leigh. Thank you so much for stopping by and additional thanks to those who also participate in Thrifty Thursday! I am most delighted to have you join in..for it's YOU who makes it a "show and tell party".

I also participate in Tablescape Thursday the host of that fun carnival is the Hostess with the Mostess...Susan of BetweenNaps on the Backporch. That's no lie or exaggeration, each week I visit Susan's porch and just long to be a guest at any of her tablescapes...especially those held on the porch.

If you do not know what Thrifty Thursday is or need more info on Thrifty Thursday you can go here.
All I ask is that if you are participating in Thrifty Thursday is to use your direct hyper link, not blog address, so friends can go directly to your post.
Don't forget to grab and post a button on your post too.

And please, don't forget to link back here to Bloggeritaville on your post so friends of yours can go and visit new friends that are participating in Thrifty Thursday! Thanks.
(warning..I am a bit long winded today!!)
Now onto Thrifty Thursday....

"I think that our tour of duty is coming to an end, girls.", High Mae announced as we crossed the state line into Mississippi headed to assist at the estate sale of my friend Diva. We left Alabama before the sun came up, which when you are traveling with two ladies who don't appreciate happy morning tunes (one who simply doesn't do mornings

and the other can potentially go postal without her morning cup of joe-which I like to call the "IV drip"..and hadn't had it yet) it is quite a risk.

But oh, "the things you do for love...the things you do for love."
Oh, please notice the name tags...the group who did the estate sale asked everyone to put on name tags, High Mae (the nonconformist of the group) decided she needed to be someone else for the day, "someone with a fun name, something catchy and memorable"...and she said proclaimed herself Ethel Mae for the day. The rest of the sales group, all 7 of us jumped on the band wagon and had fun with it.
And then there are some with a name so cool, it need not be changed. A name so cool that it can stand alone....like Cher, or Madonna....or Flo.

I chose Lavern. I always understood Lavern over Shirley, you know, back in the day.

The sale was slated to begin at 9AM, by 8:30 a line wrapped around the inside of porch, out of the heat. And boy was it HOT!

When the doors opened at 9 AM, a line of over 40 some odd people filed into the house, each looking for their own treasure of fancy.

I thought of so many of you....my tablescape friends, for there were so many sets of dishes to be had, all for a sweet deal! I also thought of you tablescape friends, when I spotted this sweet collection of dishes for $12.00. Though it was not a complete set, it would make a precious tablescape.

These little chicken cookie jars had me thinking of Sheila. Aren't they cute? They were $10.00 each. If I had I known if you wanted them Sheila, I would've gotten them for you. If you are interested and if they didn't sell I can put you in touch with my friend, who would be happy to sell them to you. Just Look at those faces!

For those that commented on the jadeite in one of my earlier post....I have to share, it was some of the first china/dishes to go. I watched it walk out the door with a happy little blond woman, happy to give it a new home. She was iffy about the $80.00 price tag on the pitcher, but I think she caved. And according to many of you jadeite lovers, she got a deal!
Speaking of deals, I found some myself! I purchased the silver spoon I showed on my slideshow for $2.00. It said "Edwards Hotel" on it. I wish I knew where the Edwards Hotel was, if it still exist. I looked Edwards Hotel up on google and there is one in Colorado and in London. Diva's mother was a journalist, her father a politician who spent much of his political career in Washington DC, so it could have been anywhere.

I also snapped up a bag of antique biscuit and cookie cutters for $6.00. Aren't they adorable? I saw one of these cute cutters in an antique store recently, $8.00 for one. I checked on ebay and it was even more for a single cutter!! Of course, I passed on those online and now am a happy owner of a set that I found at the sale. Every southern girl needs a good biscuit cutter.

My mom was not able to come to the sale, but had spotted some pottery on my blog that she put the ok for me to knock people down to get to. Marshall's Pottery.
I had seen only one piece a couple weeks ago and I went right to it when the sale began. The crock was $20.00, which was approved by mom.
I too loved the crock, it has the #2 painted on the side in blue.
Lucky mom!
But later in the day, under the dining room table I spotted two more.
Numbers #5 (50.00) & #3 (30.00)!

I had made myself a budget and those crocks exceeded it. I asked Diva to keep an eye on them. Sunday was not going to be there, but things would be 25% the first part of the day and 50% the end of the day. Guess what! 50% off baby-I got both of them! How I adore that they are numbered!
I just hope that somewhere in that home #'s 1 & 4 can be found for a complete set!
Marshall Pottery is quite interesting. Come back tomorrow when I will be discussing it in greater detail.

And for the Tablescape Thursday. Today's tablescape is one in which I cannot take credit for...Mzzz. Ann, mom is Sweetness was kind enough to host brunch for Diva and I on one of our many trips through town. She served a wonderful cheese and garlic grits casserole, fresh fruit, a strawberry & cheese ring, mandarin orange dessert and an assortment of breakfast breads. Mrs. Ann was kind enough to share her family recipes with me, I will be posting them on my recipe blog and some are already up! Just visit Plates and Places for foodie Friday's and Southern Staples.
Ms. Ann collects blue and white dishes, so you can see the theme.
Blue and White dishes. Antique glasses. A blue placemat, real ivy on the table.
Her flatware was all monogrammed. Love it!
Even her serving pieces were blue and white...
Ms. Ann has a way of making the guest in her home feel like family. That is a gift!
My sincere appreciation to Mrs. Ann for a most delicious brunch. I am still thinking about it!
Thanks to all of you for stopping by and participating in today's Thrifty Thursday. Please use Mr. Linky below to link up your blog.
I encourage you all to spread the love and visit the other thrifty Thursday participants, for that's what half the fun is. Aside from seeing a cool treasure it's making friends!
Thanks Y'all!
LOVE!

I would have fought the girl over the jadeite! I only found 2 pieces on World's Longest Yard Sale and I already had both of them!!! I for sure would have bought the cute red and white plates on your post because I have a few pieces of that pattern! And my buddy from Miles of Smiles would have gone crazy over the games and toys I saw on the slide show! I wish we could have gone!

A few minutes ago I pulled into the drive thru at McDonalds and YOU were in the car behind me, and I am so not even kidding!!! You had on a pink shirt, kinda like the one Flo is wearing in the above picture and you were driving a black car.

Now, what I wanna know is - - - WHY were you in Marion IN when Bama is leaving for Bama tomorrow???? And SECONDLY - - - if you're in Marion Indiana, WHY aren't you lettin me know!!!!

And here I thought I was your bloggy friend.

Oh - - - hope tomorrow goes smoothly. Put a box of Kleenex in your car, you may need them on the way home. Shhhhhh I won't tell.

i wouldn't have been able to work, I would have been busy stashing goodies in a screct spot to buy later!

When we did the the estate sale here in our house after hubby's grandfather passed on we had to put signs on all the architectual pieces of the house that were not for sale. Everyone wanted our glass door knobs!

Not to get too technical, but I think there should be an 'e' on the end of Lavern!

Sorry Leigh that it has taken so long for me to get back to you about your vintage hats. I started to actually drool when you told me of your collection...then reality hit. I have to make room also so I will be putting some of my own collection up for sale and keeping those that I just cannot part with. I truly appreciate the offer...if I only had a bigger place. :)
Thanks again!
