Farm Fresh Weekend

Outdoor Wednesday is hosted by the most gracious- Susan of Southern Daydreamer.

This past weekend was absolutely gorgeous....the weather perfect. No humidity, in fact it felt as though Fall was whispering through the air this weekend. It was very pleasant. All summer long I have tried to get to my local farmers market, with no avail. Finally I made it on Saturday. I arrived late, though it worked out in the end for I got to bargain with some farmers who wanted to sell their remaining produce and call it a day. Really, there is nothing better than fresh produce. It's just one of the many wonderful things about summer.

I purchased a large basket of those red ripe vine picked tomatoes, as well as some homemade sourdough bread by Kay and a delicious cheese ball from a lady who sells goat cheese. All for about $10.00. I went home and made a great sandwich made from all of my purchases.
While shopping I got to talking to the lady who sells goat cheese. My friend High Mae had actually called me to come to take a look at the lady's kitten that she had in her booth. The kitten was so tiny, the photo does not do it justice. Keep in mind that is a small child holding it and the kitten just fits in his hands.

The lady was trying to find Zoie a home. Zoie has a real nine lives story. The lady that found her drives a school bus, She was driving down the road and watched the kitten run in front of an 18 wheeler. It passed over her, straddling the kitten by a pure miracle. It then ran in front of her school bus. She slammed on her breaks, as did another car-both avoiding hitting the kitten. The lady got out and retrieved the very frightened kitten, and took it with her hoping to find it a good home. While in route the kitten somehow managed to get inside the dash and she could not get it out. For two days she tried, short of dismantling the entire car, as the kitten cried. On day two it dropped from the dash board, back inside the car.The bus driver had two dogs herself, ones that loved to kill squirrels and chipmunks, so she knew that Zoie could not safely stay with her. In the meantime she tried to feed it and give it water. The kitten did not know how to lap. It tried to suck the water from the bowl. It was then that the lady realized the kitten was only 2-3 weeks old. Fortunate for the kitty, the lady had a small goat bottle and got some of her goat's milk and fed the little kitten a good meal.
She hoped that Zoie would find her luck at the farmers market....but she did not. Zoie is now being housed and is up for adoption at Two by Two Rescue located in Helena. Maybe you reading can give this very lucky cat a home. Two by Two is a no kill shelter, even if you cannot adopt, perhaps you will consider a donation in the name of Zoie.
As fall is around the corner, the fall sporting season has begun. My daughter, Sister Sledge (far left) had her first cheer jamboree.

It won't be long before J Smooth begins his training for the upcoming wrestling season.
Bama called home this weekend and checked in, he reports he is having a wonderful time at The University of Alabama. He loves his classes and has met so many new friends and already cultivated some great growing experiences. I am so glad that he is enjoying himself. It makes me feel all the better.

On Saturday night, some of my friends from the Clematis Club threw me and my friend, Momma Joy, a shared birthday party.
I will share photos from the party on Thursday's Tablescape.

Speaking of Thursday....
Be sure to be thinking about your Thrifty Thursday post this week. I look forward each week to seeing what everyone has to share...and it is such fun visiting old friends and making new ones. Welcome to our new participants this past Thursday!

Sounds like you've been busy. Which Farmer's Market did you go to? I have been to Mt. Laurel before and to Finley but never to Pepper Place. I'm sure there are more around.

Yum, the produce looks great! The kitten is cute, I adopted two little bitty ones 11 years ago. One just recently died. Between the cat and two dogs, I'm all filled up here with no vacancies!

Thanks for the prayers!

There is nothing better than fresh, ripe produce! And it's so pretty too. I've never had goat cheese.

Glad Bama's having a good time. College in the fall is so much fun with the football games and such.
My brother's wrestled but I couldn't bear to watch, it looked so painful! Looks like you'll have a full schedul with that and cheerleading.

Sounds like you had a great birthday!

That reminds me, I need to go to the Farmers' Market. Hope kitty finds a good home. Weather was beautiful here this weekend also. I heard some crows up in the trees late yesterday - it seems so early for them to be around now.

Sister Sledge is an adorable cheerleader!

The poor kitten - maybe someone will read this post and go adopt her. I respect the lady for not giving in to the cuteness factor and protecting Zoie from her dogs. I would have been tempted to keep her and how selfish would THAT have been. Glad she is safely awaiting her adoption.

I hope that Zoie is able to find a great home that isn't a dashboard!

I love fresh tomatoes. I mean warmed from the sun, just plucked off the vine tomatoes. YUM! That kitten is just adorable - I love seeing the claws, too. Kittens are truly all claws when they are so little. I used to be a mess of scratches and welts whenever I'd play with new kitties. She truly had 9 lives.

Glad to hear the kids are doing well :)

I just can't get that kitten out of my mind. Poor little thing.. could you not adopt it? I'm sure this one has a special little soul. I would take it in a flash. The stories that go along with fur babies is always special.
