Idea House for Coastal Living

How do you design a beach house that perfectly blends the charm of historical Galveston with modern-day conveniences? Just take a few cues from the tireless design team of Coastal Living, who combined the latest in technology with the best of classic style to create a home that feels like a haven.
Did you see thse fans above the hurricane shuttered windows in the photograph below? I like the utilitarian look that they add.

Inspired by Galveston's rich architectural past, Design team, Michael and Brandan designed a Carpenter Gothic-style home, taking into consideration the necessary elevation requirements. "This isn't a typical house on stilts," Michael says. "We wanted to create a house that stays true to its style in scale while relating to the neighborhood." The duo maximized the number of windows in the project, flooding the house with light and ocean views. They also added a cupola, which brings light into the interiors and allows for natural ventilation when the doors and vents are open.

I love the layers of texture with sheer draperies, wicker furniture, and a metal table in the sitting room. Check out that rope chair! And those lighting fixtures...very clever! They certainly lend a beachy laid back feel to the room. Nothing pretentious here.

In the kitchen, the team focused on details to achieve a classic beach cottage look, choosing a farmhouse sink, beaded-board accents, vintage-style pendant lights, and engineered wood floors with an authentic hand-scraped appearance. Streamlined white cabinetry, with a mix of solid and glass-front doors and open shelving, enhances the cottage appeal and makes items easily accessible. Plus, the glass visually expands the kitchen.

I love how in the dining room, the table's color connects to the driftwood mirror. I love that idea. I think next time I am at the beach, I am going to drive to Fort Morgan and colllect driftwood to imitate this look. I also like the slipcovers in the room. They make the room feel more relaxed and inviting.

Board walls and marine-style light fixtures give this space a lighthearted feel, while navy houndstooth fabric puts a polished spin on the nautical motif. You know I am a biut partical to houndstooth, dont cha?
Here is the bathroom. I like the copper sink.....but have you ever tried to brish your teeth or wash your face in a raised sink? I am not a fan. I couldnt get used to it.
Guest bedroom in a soft pretty green...
And the master bedroom and bathroom. Notice the boat ropes that tie up the silk from the ceiling. I love the use of the stacked trunks.
Master bath:
So....your at the beach. Outdoors is where you really want to be. How about this cute changing area ...great for a quick change so you can hit the beach. I love the "Buoys and Gulls". Clever!
And after a day in the sand....this might just be my favorite room to relax in. Heck, I know it would be!
I love Coastal Living!

Wow - that place screams coastal. The soft colors, the perfect blues and the natural elements. Love it!

I put a raised sink in one of my flip houses - I hated it. I thought it was too tall. I would put in a raised sink if the cabinet it was sitting on was lower - much lower. The new owners of the flip house love it though - so that's great!

OK - - - so all of that is gorgeous. BUT, my home home isn't that ritzy and I don't think I could EVA afford a beach house, so for me they are all just dreams.

What a beautiful house. Everything looks so right, but so comfortable too! I feel the same way as you do about raised sinks.

Ohhh, I am so there. In my daydream anyway. Love that it is not too beachy. Just a hint of being at the beach. I think the Master is too much, I would want a big bed looking out over the ocean. If I am there I want to hear it, smell it, and see it , the whole time I am there.

Hi Leigh :)

Did you know that's Annie's middle name? It's after Vivien Leigh :)

Anyway, this home is gorgeous! I think I need to start buying it now that Cottage living is gone. How sad is that?

Congratulations to your beautiful boys on their achievements!

Oh and honest 'crap'... I don't think so! LOL
