Wrestling & Thrifting Treasures

True it is a "long weekend" in observance of the holiday, but I do believe that they are getting shorter with each week. This weekend, as with all Saturday's for the next couple months, we went to J.Smooth's wrestling tournament. This is his first year to wrestle, and was his third tournament to participate in. I am happy to report his first of two wins this past weekend. He won by score in both. He was very happy, saying, ""I didn't think I would win any this year". I hope it built his confidence. He had many "fans" on hand to witness the event, several of who were wrestlers in their own heyday (Big Daddy and his twin borther, The Artist). They were more proud than actually J. Smooth was, but I guess it has come full circle and now they live through him. It was a proud moment for all.

(J. Smooth gets the win!)
Also in attendance, was our old highschool friend, Scott Donze along with his son. He wanted his son to witness wrestling first hand. I think it would be safe to say that Coach Glenn will have at least a handful of "new crop" next season of boys who were chomping at the bit to get on the mat.

(Scott's son, "The Artist" two boys, Sister Sledge and J Smooth)
After the tournament my family headed to Longhorns for lunch where we met up with my B.I.L., "the Artist", my S.I.L, "Mida" with their children in tow. as well as Scott and his son. It was great to sit and to catch up with Scott. I know Big Daddy and the Artist were thrilled to reminisce on all the "old times" together. There was alot of laughter.

(Big Daddy, Scott, The Artist)
On Sunday we did more catching up with old friends over a good meal, this time with our dear friends, the Young's. I cannot think of a better way to spend time than being with friends and family. A good weekend, indeed.

Ok, I know I promised and held out on you. My thrift treasures. Actually, it was to blame cold last Friday to take pictures outside. My southern bones just aren't tolerable of cold like that!
Here are the "treasures" that I found at the thrift store last week.
I have much planned for each of them. I mentioned that the basket will get an painted aging treatment and be used for my Christmas tree next year. The mirror will also get a paint treatment too. I just love the shape of it. Finally, in need of painting is the orange tool caddy. I think I will use it in J. Smooth's room, which is currently receiving an overhaul as I type.
Other finds- a new metal candle holder to fit inside my fireplace. I needed a new one. I pop this into the fireplace during the spring and summer. I love to see the flickering of the candles, and it is certainly to hot for a fire. I also picked up a round woven piece, It reminded me of a smaller tobacco basket. A treasure box that will be used in conjunction with J. Smooth's birthday party (if I ever get it planned).
A wire egg basket, a Ball glass canning jar with spring lid, a painted blue box (art project in mind), a nesting bird (brand new in the box) and finally....a MCCOY pottery bowl!
I don't know why, but I really love this little set of coasters. They all fit into this little gold box (I am a sucker for a decorative box) and I like the fact that the coasters aren't out for display, they are hidden inside the box, easy to pull out when needed. I thought they were so sweet.

So, there you have it, my finds from the thrift store. I will be certain to show you my before and after's when I have gotten accomplished the things I have in store. Have a great week!
Be sure and comment, so I can have a trail to your blog! I always enjoy all the nice comments! Thanks for dropping by Bloggeritaville!

I wish they had more wrestling as an option around here, I think L.L. would love it.
