Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick had a Mr Linky party for us to show some of our favorite things. I saw this actually over at Valarie's Blog. You can still join the party if you want, or you can just go look at everyone else's favorite things.
These are a few of my favorite things....
Christmas ornaments!
Everyone of them is sentimental in some way, or has a story.
I have many that are handmade by my kids.....
I collect glass ornaments. Here are a few of the Santa's on my tree ( of which my kids did not make):
This one is full of glitter!
This one was given to me by a student, when I taught preschool.
And you KNOW I have to have some "island" on my tree...
And a little nod to Jimmy Buffett. I will bet he has this one on his tree!
I also love ornaments that relate to the nativity. This one in particular, is one of my favorites. I got it at Bombay Company.
I also love vintage ornaments. At one antique store I came upon a large stash for next to nothing. I was soooo excited! I love all the cracks in the glass. It adds to it's character.
And I have a couple of ornaments that I got when I attended a private Open House at the Governors Mansion. I am still trying to figure out how I got that invite. But it was fun! The Governor, I call him "Bob" (I didnt really) and his wife were so gracious and kind. And, They gave great party favors!
This one from the White House collection. I am still waiting on that invite! HA!
More islands.....mermaids. Sister Sledge was originally a mermaid. Not really, but that was her name before SS. She was on the swim team, swimming like a fish at four. Her swim coach called her mermaid and it stuck. Also because she had a great fascination with them. Ok, She and I both.
Oh and yes! That is Sister Sledge in the photo. My tree has lots of photos. And if you happen to send me a Christmas picture , it does go on my tree. I save all the pictures, year after year.
Another love, birds. They remind me of my aunts. They gave me a birds nest with a tiny (fake)cardinal one year. Attached was a card telling of having a birds nest in a tree was good luck. I always loved it. That ornament is at my Moms, although it may come up missing this year.....
A Christopher Radco ornament that I got for $5.00 after Christmas one year. I bought four of them.
A group collection....
It is hand embroidered and has tiny little beads on it. Kinda "bedazzled", but not to extreme. I like it. And at $2.88, I can change it and not feel bad, should I come across another skirt I like better.
And a vintage look ornament that says, "Peace".
A group collection....
Let me mention a great idea. I wanted something different for a tree skirt and couldn't find what I wanted. I didn't want to spend a bunch, so being the Thrifter that I am, headed to the thrift store. I began looking at ladies skirts, and found this. It's a perfect tree skirt!

Another idea I had, when shopping in World Market (import store), I have always loved the paper lanterns, so I bought three strings when they were on sale ($5.00 each) and put those on my tree. It adds just a punch of color to my white lights. I love it!
And those, are a few of my favorite things!

I love all of your ornaments. My favorite of course is your one in honor of Buffett! And I love the mermaid. I collect mermaids, but don't have an ornament. I must get one! Your tree skirt idea is so original and I love it!
I love the christmas trees where every part is special and has memories!
Ornaments..my favorites, as well. We have a family tradition of "sharing" in that if someone admires a particular ornament and it's a true "gotta have it or I'll cry" devotion, it is handed over with a smile to go live on another tree...which is why I've been known to buy several of any that I love that dearly...loved this post!
Sandi
Thanks Nicole! Try Hobby Lobby, if you have one, they seem to have quite a collection. I will bet you can find a mermaid there!
Thanks, Hewy! I love it because I sit and stare at the tree and it conjures up such fond memories.
Sandi- You are so nice! There are some on my tree I wouldnt part with. You are nicer than I am. LOL! But that is nice, to share, especially in the spirit of Christmas!
That is so funny, I was dreaming of Hobby Lobby last night. We have a new one, like 2 miles from my house! I will go today!!
Thanks for catching up with me and all of your sweet comments on my blog. I totally understand how you can get busy and bogged down with work.
Have a WONDERFUL weekend!! :)
First of all, love your header picture. Second, the ornaments are great, I especially love the gittery Santas! Third, that skirt is AWESOME!! What a great idea!! I use fabric, but this is even better!! Do you mind if I highlight this? I'm finding so many fun ideas through this post, and I'd love to share it! Let me know.
Lovely! We're decorating the tree tonight... can't wait!! Lizzie and I will put the ornament on and Steve will be in his chair telling us it looks great without looking at it... ahhhhh! memories!!!!
That tree skirt idea was a dandy. You are SO clever, not cleaver - - - that is a sharp knife!!!
