A friend of mine and his Sunday school class "adopted" (sponsor) a group pf Russian orphans. Each member has a child of their own sponsorship. My friend Bob and his class go and visit the children twice a year and throughout the year they continue to meet their child's financial needs to provide education materials, clothing and toys and games.
Each member in the class is working on a collective project. They went to Build a Bear and each made a doll for "their" child. After that they were to take pictures of their doll doing "everyday things" around their home. Then those pictures would be sent with the doll to the orphaned child in Russia so that they can see things that we do daily to learn about their sponsor. My friend is a single man, no children, so he asked that I would take his doll around with me and photograph her. These are the pictures of "Anya's" day with me.

That is so neat. I bet it is wild for a child to see a different country!
How cool! You picked out a great doll; she is so cute. :)
This is sooooooooooooo CUTE! We should do a blog doll like this! Pass it around to all our friends...do a linky so we can see where the doll travels! Wouldn't that be neat?!?! We should start it! Then send a little small piece of your town along with the doll to the next blog person!!! Kind of like the Traveling Pants!
Hewy-I will bet that is very facinating. I always loved the gnome idea...
Michelle-? as are you!
Welcome- Atculaly my firend picked out the doll andmade it. I just am taking the pictures. It is a neat idea.
J-look at you and your clever ideas. You should start it. I think that is a very clever idea!
Loved this! What a great idea. Saw the photo of your daughter cheerleading...beautiful.
I LOVE this idea. How creative.
Did you say the WHOLE class goes to Russia TWICE a year???? Wow - - - - I'm thinking what that must cost.
Keetha-I think that they actully leave the decion up to the class and take into consideration jobs and schedules. I know last year that some did go twice. I dont know if the chuch helps fund the trip or not. I know that Bob did talk about expenses so I know that he payed for a portion of it if not all of it.
Hewy-regarding your comment. When the class goes over each time they try and do something special with the children. Many times it relates to what our own children might be into at the time. Last year I knwo they brought over the cup stackers. They have taken tthe kids bowling (they had never bowled before), they took decorations and costumes one time and had a 50's dance and played 50's music (which they had not heard). I know the women had the girls a pampering night and played with hair and makeup, painted nails. Stuff we all take for granted....I think the kids do find it facinating when their "American parents/sponsors" come.
What a great idea J!
The doll is so cute...and great pictures!
The Traveling Geisha asked me to schedule a playdate. She thought Annya was pretty - loved her eyes and sense of style - and wants to get to know her.
This is a FUN way to give back!
