New York Pizza

Last week I got the opportunity to try out a new pizza place, New York Pizza in Homewood. The occasion was a good one, I rode over with my mother to Homewood where we met three friends that we had not seen in far to long, Pat, Sara and Shanica. Be looking out for a future post on Pat, a incredible woman of great faith even when facing trials such as drug use in her family, the death of her child and as a caregiver for her mother with Alzheimer's. She is an motivator with a powerful message that I am trying my best to convey through words, though words cannot do her justice. More on that later...

As of late, I have been completely turned off by the local pizzeria's. I was anxious to try something new. The restaurant is located in the Edgewood section of Homewood. The little shops there are so quaint and historical. We found the restaurant was only occupied by a few patrons (I hear weeknights it is busier). The menu was three pages of wonderful sounding selections, named after all things New York. Pat and Shanica both ordered the Antipasto Salad ($4.50 for half, $7.50 whole). My mother ordered the personal Little Italy gourmet pizza ($7.95 personal). I went for the personal straight cheese with wheat bread ($5.50 personal). Sara chose the personal world trade center ($10.45). It wasn't long before your lunches were ready. Of course the salads were the first to be brought out. They were piled high with roast beef, turkey and ham finely chopped, as well as provolone cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, black olives and of course lettuce with the olive oil dressing. I couldn't get over how large the salads were. Our pizza's came out next. Mine was delicious with the wheat dough. The pizza sauce was seasoned perfectly. Mom began to rave on the taste of her pizza. The Little Italy was wonderful, having no red sauce , but delicious with olive oil, tomatoes, the perfectly roasted garlic, basil and Parmesan. I will order that one on my next trip. That pizza is recommended on the traditional white dough. Sara's World Trade Center came with several toppings: pepperoni, ham, Italian sausage, ground beef, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, black olives, green olives, jalapenos, extra dough and extra cheese. Our waitress, Anita was wonderful in her recommendations as well as keeping our drinks filled. I found the pizza to be so delicious that I ordered two to take home for supper for the family (not to mention I didn't have to cook!). My family were not as convinced with the pizza. Big Daddy claimed it did not beat out pizza hut, but I did take into consideration that the pizza had cooled and were then reheated in the microwave oven. Thus, not a fair taste comparison. I will certainly eat at New York Pizza again. New York pizza, it's the old fashioned pizzeria in the hearty of Edgewood, since 1982.
