McDonalds Monopoly

I am in trouble. This past weekend when I was doing some major cleaning for the baby shower. I was throwing stuff away left and right. My family has been collecting those McDonald's monopoly tabs in homes of winning big. This is as close as we come to "gambling". Anyway, there those things were, strewn all over my baker's rack in the kitchen. I thought to myself, "If anyone really cared about them, they would take better care of those pieces". With that, I scooped them into my hand and threw them in the trash. I didn't think twice about it.
Last night, my husband had to work late and stopped and picked up a McDonald's on his way home. When he came in, he had his little game pieces in hand. He was so happy that he'd won a "breakfast sandwich". He handed the other pieces to my older son, who looked at them and announced, "I think we've won a thousand dollars!", with game pieces in hand he ran into the kitchen. Seconds passed and then, "MOM! Where are the Monopoly game pieces?" Silence. What was I going to say? What could I come up with that was believable? The dog ate it? No, to obvious. My husband looked at me, "Where are they?" Still silence. I couldn't think. I cannot lie. I am so bad at it that I am so inexperienced. For some people, it is a well crafted skill, an art. Me-I was sinking and sinking fast. "Did you throw them away?". All I could do was fess up. You would have thought the two of them had just lost the lottery-or even worse to them, the Iron Bowl. I mean, come on! We have never won much more than a coke. It collects in my house and then I have to deal with them. Of course we didn't win a thousand dollars. Wishful thinking on my son's part. I am certain of it. He, not so. I wish I had those little pieces so I could just prove it to him. It wasn't pleasant. They weren't happy. Geez, I guess now the family will all be eating McDonald's and end up looking like "super-sized" versions of themselves, just for some ridiculous game pieces that you know there is not an actual winning piece out there. What I am to do now? How can I make it up to them. I do not like fast food and I do not eat fast food. The guilt is killing me. Pass me a fried apple pie and a milkshake.......
P/S-I told ya, "Hewy". Busted......

This is the first time my kids have ever really paid any attention to it. My 12yo daughter got her first game pieces a week or so ago and on one drink she got 2/3 of a property. She is convinced that she is going to win $10,000. When I tried to explain to her that they make the third very hard to get she looked me dead in the eye and said, "Why are you trying to crush my dreams..."
Oi.

I thought you didn't really have to have all the pieces. Just the winning one. Have fun!
