Thrifty Thursday #123, Plus a Tablescape

Hi! It's Thrifty Thursday! I am your host, Leigh. Thank you so much for stopping by and additional thanks to those who also participate in Thrifty Thursday! I am most delighted to have you join in..for it's YOU who makes it a "show and tell party".

(You can click on any pictures for a closer view)

*Thrifty Thursday takes place each Thursday and is hosted here at Tales from Bloggeritaville, but the party is a progressive one, visit the links to see all the Thrifty Thursday links to see the thrifty treasures participating bloggers have to share.

*Don't forget to copy and paste the Thrifty Thursday logo button to your computer so you can add it to your side bar and your Thrifty Thursday post. That way visitors will know that your are participating in Thrifty Thursday.

I have been wanting something for my front door. I have had a grapevine wreath with some berries on it, since Janurary. Its time for a change. I had been eyeballing the prettiest metal sunflower on a door in my mother's neighborhood for sometime. Then I thought....why not try and make my own?
......So, I'm not a metal sculptor, but not much stops me when I get an idea.
If I can't bend metal with heat, well I can get my children's paint kit out and do the next best thing.

I purchased some foam board at my local Walgreens and took out my chldren's art kit.

And I penciled in a childlike sunflower.
Then, with the world's worst paintbrush I began to paint.
I mixed colors together, I was messy. I had fun.

Ta! Da!

Next, using the techniques of a skilled safety patrol officer (a position I never held, but it sounded good) I used a exacto knife and cut the white areas away from the flower.  Then I took some spray sealent and sealed the sunflower so if it got damp (my door is covered) it wouldn't streak or wilt. On the back of the sunflower, I took my daughtersrubber band-like black headband (It matched my door) and taped it to the board.

Wah! LA!
Door Art!

A lil sunshine always does the soul good!
I smile everytime I look at it, even if it isn't artist quality work.
And I plan to make more! A flag, a polka dot monogram, and all kids of holiday ideas.
And for less than $3.00.....a bargain!
This is an idea that even the kinds can get in on!

Wishing you lots of sunshine today!

Tablescape Thursday
Now, onto to Tablescape Thursday, which is hosted by Susan of Between Naps on the Porch.

I also participate in Tablescape Thursday on Thursdays in addition to Thrifty Thursday.  The host of that fun carnival is the Hostess with the Mostess...Susan of Between Naps on the Backporch. That's no lie or exaggeration, each week I visit Susan's porch and just long to be a guest at any of her tablescapes...especially those held on the porch.

Well, you can see this week I have colro in mind, from my front door to my table!

What is a tablescape without the food? I invite you to stop by my food blog, PLATES & PLACES, tomorrow for Foodie Friday!

Thanks to all of you for stopping by and participating in today's Thrifty Thursday. Please use Mr. Linky below to link up your blog.

I encourage you all to spread the love and visit the other thrifty Thursday participants, for that's what half the fun is. Aside from seeing a cool treasure it's making friends!

Pretty sunflowers Leigh. I still couldn't upload a picture, so I finally gave up and just linked with whatever Mr. linky put in...very weird!

This is one cute sunflower! Very cheerful. I looked back though a couple of previous posts, and I have a question: Do you think I could get your Granny to adopt me? That food looks like my mother used to cook. ;-))

Wow! I love your sunflower. I think you did an incredible job; I don't think I have the talent to add the details that you did. Mine would definitely look like a third grader's work!

Your tablescape is lovely, too. Love the pink place mats!
