I had a fabulous time on vacation last week. If I was late in getting by your blog, I want you to know why. Apologies. My family and I stayed in Perdido Key, Florida. My parents, brother and his family stayed in Orange Beach. My brother in law, "the Artist" and his family stayed at another location in Perdido Key, so I basically played all up and down the coastline. We had a blast, and of course the week just wasn't long enough. I plan to go back in a few weeks, hopefully to do all the things I ran out of time for.
I do have much to tell, but today I wanted to just run a slideshow of the past week, and use the rest of the week to go into better detail of the who, what , when and where. So, I hope you enjoy the sights....

Sherrie contacted me yesterday to say that I had an award over at her blog. I have become to behind in posting those. Forgive me. I am grateful for each and every thought sent my way, be it a comment, an email and certainly an award. I am always flattered and humbled at the thought that someone else would think of me. That being said, Sherri was kind enough to give me this award. She said that "This is how the award works: This award is bestowed on to blogs that are exceedingly charming. I am so appreciative at such a gesture.

The award also ask that I tell 7 "random" Things about me. There probably isn't much I haven't already confessed on my blog. Here goes:

**I classify garage sales. Just a drive by can usually determine if it is worth stopping or what I call a "drive by".

**I have a weakness for bread and cheese. And pasta. And potatoes. Yes starches are my downfall.

**I had three miscarriages in my life. I know that God has a plan far greater than I can ever begin to understand. I feel that through our trials and tribulations we learn greatly about ourselves, lessons that can be beneficial to others.

** Things, or people rather, that get on my nerves- People who brag, people who think they are above someone else, people who are rude. I am here to tell you that good manners are gold in my book.

**I am indecisive and it drives me batty. As Jimmy Buffett would say though, "Indecision may or may not be my problem." I take great stock in what my family and friend think and usually consult with them on decisions, no matter how great or miniscule.

**This, I know, is going to sound cheesy, but from the moment I saw my husband-at the age of 11, I knew I would marry him. I think God laid that upon my heart that very day. I will never forget seeing him and what I felt. How I prayed.

**I believe in ghost and spirits. Not vampires or witches.

And now the awards. I can honestly say that almost each and everyone of these ladies below I correspond with daily, be it email, comments back and forth, even phone calls or letters. I look forward to their visits and feel as though I know them, some I actually have met through blogging. I feel even greater blessed to know these ladies and feel inspired and encouraged by them, their zest for life, their faith and the knowing that it isn't things that make us rich, it is people. I am blessed to call them friends. I know you will feel the same way, just pay a respectful visit to their blog and I am quite certain that you will agree.

Late Awards

If you have given me an award, I am most appreciative. Forgive me for taking literally months to post and recognize it. Life has been on full cylinder's lately. I don't complain...I just realize that there aren't enough hours in the day for all the things I have intended. I thank you each and everyone. A genuine thank you for your kindness.
Honest scrap I got three times, once was from Mari (forever ago), from Karen and from Polly & Steve. I thought it said Honest Crap at first...and I would equally think that was nice. Much of what is here could me considered crap. But I prefer scrap. It has a nicer ring to it. Thanks ladies!


To my understanding this award is bestowed upon bloggers who write about issues close to their very own heart. I am honored you all would think this much of me.

1.I love to give hugs. I hate to shake hands.
2. I question myself often. "Am I doing the right thing..."etc. I am 38 years old and still working on the confidence thing. I am getting better though. Big Daddy is a good trainer. You know that AC/DC song? You know the one.
3. Forgive me friends, but if you send me emails that ask me to forward something on and it might say, "you don't love or believe in God" if you don't forward, I usually delete. I delete in a big way. I hate that crap. And that's honest scrap. The Lord knows my love without forwarding a chain email. I prefer to get the real emails without the FW in front...unless they are really funny.
4. "Indecision may or may not be my problem." I am terrible at making decisions. I often refer to Big Daddy and plead with him to make them for me. I am a wuss. Even little things, like where to eat lunch. Just take me there.
5. I pray every single day. Often several times a day.
6. I have a fascination with many things. I guess one could say I am easily amused/entertained. But I love to study doors and trees.
7. I am fearful of curtains. I love them, but afraid to commit...I change my mind often and do not want to spend alot of $$ and then regret my choice. I guess that goes back to #4.
8. If I am having a bad day, I can instantly change my attitude with a little tunage (music). I find peace in lyrics and riffs. Joy comes from within...and you can give it to others by just having the right attitude and a smile.
9. I journal. My thoughts. Songs. Poetry. Novel ideas. I have done this since I was in highschool.
10. I believe in volunteerism and being involved in community.

#11. I am least impressed with people that want to impress. That is most unimpressive. Not to mention irritating.
#12. I am such a bad phone friend. I am trying really hard to be better. I think it is the fact that growing up I hung with guys and we calle done another when we had something to say. Not to just shoot the breeze. I am trying though. I love my friends and LOVE for them to call me....I guess I dont want to disturb anyone for "nothing". I am a constant work in progress.

This blog measures Up award is/was from Domestic Fashionista. I would rather up than fall short. The Fashionesta never falls short, so it was quite a compliment coming from her!

Lemonade Award is from Lucches to LouisVuitton. I love that saying ...when life gives you lemons make lemonade. I also like the one that says when life gives you lemons make lemon drops-while others say Margarita's. Its a great philosophy...make the best of it. I love this award!

I wish I could remember who gave this award....but considering the award...it is probably the most honest and deserving award. Thank you. "Just Keep Swimming, swimming, swimming...."

Mall Rats & Badges- Here's Yours

I ventured to the mall yesterday. Have I mentioned how I have come to loathe that place? It chaps my hide that the people in the kiosk shout at you, beg for you to "come over here, let me ask you a question"...in futile attempts to make a sale. To me it is a form of harassment. If I wanted your product, I will approach you. Today I had one guy who would not leave my daughter and I alone. I actually called the mall and complained.

There was however, a reason for my trip to the bombardment. Sledge's school closed due to sewage backup. Gross. I am now contemplating moving. All that is in my head are the disgusting little germs and bacteria that ran through the hallways and into rooms. 60% of the school was affected. And I am a germaphob. Has anyone seen the Seinfeld episode in which Jerrys girlfriend toilet explodes on her and then he cannot date her any longer. I can relate. I may have to have a long distance parental relationship after Sledge is permitted to go back to school. Oh, I kid. But I will meet her at the bus stop with a disinfectant kit.

The sewage fest was however, good news for Sledge. It has given her a week off of school (which I have told her she will have to make up. She is hoping they will forget). We were due a girls day. I took Sledge to the mall. Sledge had not had her hair highlighted since her birthday last year. She had been asking, so I thought, Why not? She had it cut and highlighted. We ate lunch. We bought her a couple new outfits. And my mother had given her some cash that was burning a hole in Sledge's pocket. She picked out a new webkin. We had a wonderful day.

On the way out of the mall I ran into the precious Jenny Hope and her daughter Morgan.

I knew one day that eventually Jenny Hope's path would cross with mine. Jenny Hope was one of the first blogs that I came across in my introduction to Blogging over a year ago. Jenny is one of these people who lives are a true testament of faith. She is a survivor. She has faced obstacles and hurdled them, without failure to give glory to God. She is amazing. She had her precious little girl, Morgan in tow. It was great to meet her. She is often a topic of Jenny's in her tales of Morgan's gift of gab. To sweet. Please lift Jenny up, as she is in need of prayer. I know though, that the Lord will continue to use her for His good.

My dear friend Terri of Bama Bargains bestowed upon me this sweet award below. Susan said of Terri best, "What can I say about Terri? She's a giver. She's always thinking of other people." It's true. She and my friend Zinnia are two amazing women who are true givers and constantly putting others before themselves. They are great examples of unselfishness.

To be accepting, I was asked to follow some guidelines to answer some questions and then to pass the award along. So now I must follow the rules and list six things that make me happy and pass it on to six other bloggers.

Here goes!

What makes me happy:

1. My family.

2. God and His works of nature.

3. The beach, but I suppose this could account for #2.....if that is the case I will say spanx. There's nothing like good underwear, especially if it sucks and tucks. Can I get a amen?

4. good music. It can completely change my mood....like sunshine on a cloudy day.

5. Being with my circle of friends. They always afford me a laugh.

6. A roadtrip...especially one in which there is a pit stop at some really cool dive that serves up a great meal

and a bonus.....especially in light of yesterday's downward spiral- knowing that our investments are stable-and even growing. Yesterday was a hard hit on many. May we all come together as a country and pray.

That crazy girl Susan of Psych Ward was kind enough to bestow me with this Brilliant Weblog Premio 2008 award. I am so appreciatve and honored that you would think of me.

On this one I was asked to elect seven folks that I felt deserving. These came to me easily:

1. Rhoda's Southern Hospitality- Everyday she brings her southern charm to us by way of decorating advice or a good recipe.

2. Musings From Left Field-J is an inspiration. A full time employee, a devoted blogger, planning a wedding, and literally refurbishing and restoring a lake house herself (with the assistance of good friends and family). Though she makes me break a sweat tuning into her blog, she inspires.

3. A Schmitty Life- She brings wit and satire to the everyday grind. Like good coffee, it's addictive.

4.Bless Our Nest-Anther who will give decorating inspiration and make you jealous that you don't live in the state of Arkansas-where there is an Oops.

5. Da Troll- I admire him for speaking his mind on even the topics that some of us avoid for opening a can of beans. Example-politics. Troll is one I must tune into...and he is a pro at Troll Polls.

6. No Sleep in Helena- I tune in daily to see what is going on in my corner of the world. "Hewy's" blog is brilliant in the fact that all the news is there...and often times a fun contest. He is friends with an inner circle of gnomes. Not many can claim that.

7. My Good Cents- Looking for bargains? Freebies? Samples? Good Cents can direct you to where to find the steals on deals every day. In today's world of a crashing economy, how can one not visit her blog?

Weekend Rendezvous

I am big on doing things as a family, but I think it equally important to take time and remember how it all began. I am talking about time with your mate. Big Daddy and I were overdue for some "we" time so we made a call to my MIL and begged asked her to watch the circus kids for few days so that Big Daddy and I could make an escape. We took off for Orange Beach with my mom and dad for a long weekend. This is my favorite time of year to be at the beach, no crowds, perfect weather, the water always seems to be crystal clear. Mother Nature uses the changes in season and temperatures (like clockwork) and molds the beach into a completely different structure, like an artist wiping a slate clean and beginning a new artistic show piece.
The shore of the beach is now wide and flat, perfect for those strolls along the shores....conducive to relaxation. I just love it!! The time we spent went by to quickly, as it always does when you find yourself in paradise. But we milked our short vacation for all that it was worth, as you will read in the following few post. We went to some delicious restaurants. I intentionally wanted to try out some new places to see how they fared. We attempted to take a sunset sailboat cruise, but with Ike entering the gulf, the captain had put up his boat when Gustav blew through a week ago, "Just to be certain..." While I regret that we were not able to sail, a walk along the beach in the moonlight hand in hand with the one I love was even a better choice. Things just seem to work out that way, if you allow them.

I have alot to catch up on this week, besides trying to get my house into a decent shape, I have many comments to go through (forgive me for not checking my mail!), your blogs to read (I Love stopping by and reading up on the thoughts of blogger frans) and many of my own post to post!
I haven't had a chance to write up my "Meet My Frans" this week and I am plum embarrassed about it. I have some really great blogs and "Frans" that I want to introduce you all to. That is to come as soon as I get myself organized.

Also, my sincere thanks to A Schmitty Life for this award that she herself made "special" for me. I am not worthy, but I am duly honored and humbled. Sincere Thanks.

I really wanted to pass this award on to a handful of people, Since it was a "chat" award, I made my own criteria of what I wanted to look for, to determine worthiness. I don't want to just throw awards around and not make them meaningful. My criteria made me really think about which blogs that I visit where there is almost daily posting, like turning a page to see what is next. And 2. A blog where it is guaranteed to always have a good tale told. Much like my favorite story teller, and my mentor, Katherine Tucker Windham, these folks just know how to tell a tale, no matter what the subject, it is interesting. For me this award, as I present it is about the story telling skills.....an art form, thus a very "distinguished" award.

Bloggy BFF

Remember back to elementary school when you had your first crush on someone. It all began so innocently, talks, passing one another notes, where you were asked to check yes or no, if you liked so and so? Or perhaps you remember your first best friend, someone you just enjoyed being with, hanging out with, talking as well as listening to one another's most sordid tales...that is as sordid as it can be as a child. She was just so cool.


Well, something happened to me yesterday that was as sweet and innocent as those childhood moments, The Roaming Southerner has chosen me as one of her Bloggy Be Frie's (that's"Frans" in Leigh speak). (Jumping up and down...but not as manic as Tom Cruise) I am sooo excited. An award! I am so touched, so moved, so downright gleeful. Thank ya mam! And girl, I'd give that award right back to ya.
The award is to go out to those in the bloggy world that you have befriended, though never met-or at least until after "meeting" on your blog. It is asked that I declare and spread some bloggy love too. I never want to leave anyone feeling left out, like I did in 5th grade in PE class when I was chosen last for the kickball team because I had no athletic skills. Ok, I sucked. "It's a Major Award"

"I got an award...it's a major award" I love that line from A Christmas Story, delivered by the ever so talented and dearly departed Darren McGavin. I too can say that line because my friend "Abbey" over at "Abbey's Road" gave me this award yesterday. I have never been such a recipient of ANY blogging award (I want a recount!) and have been so envious of all the other blogs that have received such. Ahh, shucks.. (stamping my foot) I am so delighted. It is "a major award!"

Sure, take your grammy, your oscar, your tony too....can you ever really say that you have been awarded for "Making the World a Better Place"? I do not know what I did to deserve such accolades, but I will accept it. I also gathered that I must pass it onto 5 others (and as much as i'd like I will not pass to those who have already knowingly been tagged). Thank you, Abbey. I am genuninely appreciative.

My "award" is going right over there, no -over there on the right and will remain for the world to see (smile). THX!

2.The Nesting Place (NO ONE, I say NOONE can mistreat curtains better than this "fluffer" NO window should be bare and ugly (like mine. and finally #5 (Geez, I can think of at least 3 or 4 who are deserving, but I am trying to think ahead and know that the ones I pick will pick some others.....)

5. The Roaming Southerner (Well this was really a no brainer....she made me into Loretta Lynn for goodness sakes. A certain shoe in with flattery.)
