Thank You.

I just wanted to say Thank you to all who sent well wishes and comments regarding the passing of my friend {Boss' Dad and Mama Joy's Husband} Larry. Larry will certainly be missed. Mr. Larry touched so many lives, that was evident. The service was beautiful, from Bo's beautiful written song, to the bag pipers that played at the graveside service (Mr. Larry wish) it was very touching. I know that the family was moved at the overwhelming support. I ask that you will continue to pray over them in the days ahead. I thank you. Mr. Larry's Family thanks you.

Psalm 27:4-5 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

"Sure, I'll Do it!" (Marlee Matlin, Seinfeld)

I was interviewed by Mari from My Little Corner of the World. Here are her questions for me and my answers.

1) Why do you blog? I blog there fore, I am. HA! Not really....I had no clue what blogging was. I had never even been to a blog. But in sending out articles to both employers and clients of newspaper and magazines, I thought it might be easier to have a place to post my stories and direct people there. Well, never for even a minute would I do that now. Obviously, the things I am writing about here are a smorgasbord of stories taken from pages in my life. Pretty boring to any employer, client, and probably anyone reading this. But I genuinely enjoy it. I have met the nicest people all because of blogging. People who blog and people who read. I find it a blessing.

2) If you could meet any person, living or dead, who would it be?
Meet? The obvious answer here, of course, if Jesus Christ my savior. But I have a few others. Not to change the question, but I love to ask people who would you invite to dinner (5 guest) living or dead. Mine would be Katherine Tucker Windham, the author. I have met her several times (does that count then?) and each time I am in awe. I literally hang on her every word. She is an amazing author and story teller- a natural talent. Others, Jimmy Buffett, Stevie Nicks, Loretta Lynn. No surprises here. Finally, Charles Barkley. I find him fascinating and would love to have him over to supper. Charles, if you are reading this (and why wouldn't he be? Yeah, right....LOL!!!) Consider this an open invitation.

3) What is your greatest fear, and why? Dying Young or having a close family member to die. I know that sounds terrible but it is the truth. From the age of 17 to the age of 24 I had 6 close friends of mine to die. It greatly affected me. And I often wonder where they would be today, what they would be doing, what lives would they be leading. I know God has far greater plans for them, though. My other fears and I have two- roaches and heights.

4) Who has had the greatest influence on your life? Two answers, My mom and my husband. Parenting, specifically being a mom (I am a SAHM) is both the hardest and most rewarding job. I just try and be half the mom my parents were to me, in particular, my mom because she stayed home with my brother and me. I have huge shoes to fill.
And my husband, who is my biggest influence on me now. Honestly, God chose him for me. He never wavers with his support, his great advice, his compliments, his help, his guidance. He is my rock, my soulmate. Figuratively speaking, He always has a hand extended to pick me up, or a hand across my shoulders for strength. I can always count on him. We truly have a mutual admiration and respect for one another. I could not ask for a better man. My man, among men.

5) If you could go back in time, what time period would you like to visit? Oh, the 1930 or 1940's. I know it was hard times, but I am drawn to the clothes, the romance of writing letters, the imporatnce of family, the formality of society, the courtesy that lacks in today's world.
Watch the movie, Somewhere in Time. Oh, I am mesmerized.

In Memory of "Mr.Larry"

We lost a good one today, folks. Larry Childers was the kind of man who knew everyone. He made friends easily. Mr. Larry was an impeccable dresser. He had style. He had heart. He had a tolerance for mankind. Sit by him at a party and he would tell the best stories and the funniest jokes.
He believed in being involved. He supported others and his community. You could see him on any given day, at the courthouse where he worked. He loved God, Family and Country. He had a passion for politics. You could see him at any and every election working the polls.
Larry was a Godly man. A family man. A friend to all who knew him. A military, man who served this great country.
I can share that in several of my conversations with Mr. Larry, we often got on the subject of spirituality and the afterlife. A topic that is taboo to many for fear of big debates. I don't know why we discussed this....perhaps because we shared similar beliefs. But those chats with him today bring me comfort. I can only imagine the great celebration in Heaven at his arrival.
To Mr. Larry, you will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Your memory will live on in the many, many lives you touched.
To my dear friend, "the Boss" (Larry's Daughter) and Mama Joy (His Wife) and all of Larry's Family, I know you must feel the love and support that this community that Larry has loved so long, reciprocated. I will continue to lift you in prayer now and in the months to come.
I love you.

Weekend Highlights

I knew it was going to be a weekend of continual movement, though one really never can prepare themselves. When I say that I am "tard" this morning, believe it. For those that do not live in the south, "tard" is more than tired. Uh, huh.
Friday and Saturday were filled with the AYWA wrestling tournament. I have to say first and foremost, I was highly impressed by this tournament. It was very well run, by my good friend, Glenn Albarado, who is the coach on on the board of directors for the association. Glenn and his group of volunteers did an amazing job at orchestrating this event to run smoothly...with even some added pomp and circumstance. My youngest son, J. Smooth competed. Big Daddy coached and I was the team photographer for the two day event. Exhausting. But I caught my second wind late on Saturday afternoon when J Smooth's group was up. Smooth won 5 of his 7 matches, that put him in third place for his weight division. To say that me, as a mother, and the rest of my family (who are indeed a "wrestling" family) were over the moon was an understatement. I had to leave the complex to keep from embarrassing my family with the ugly cry. I held it in until I got to the car and let it go. I was so overwhelmed and so happy for Smooth, who just a few weeks ago said that he "didn't think he would win any this season {since this is my first year to compete". We gave him the speech, you have to believe in yourself....you have to be a winner in your head (mentally) before you can be a winner on the mat. After Smooth's win, he came over to me and said, "Mom. I believed it in my head first." (Oh, sniff.) One of life's many lessons, understood.

Saturday night was the lingerie shower of my friend, The Boss, who is getting married at the end of the month. I literally raced from the tournament to home (to shower and finish the food I was to bring) and then onto the shower. Whew! All without my camera, which Big daddy had to finish the tournament. I borrowed Sister Sledge's and relied on Mama Joy to help with the snapping of photos.
The shower was alot of fun! Much! Boss got some really beautiful things, some really funny things (Joy Sister, that was to much. Really, that police badge get-up won the show), and a few uh, "scary" things too. It was funny, my friend High Mae took care of the invitations and asked that no one sign a card on the gift. The gifts were to reflect the personalities of the giver and "the boss" had to try and figure out who gave what gift. It was really fun. And you know, she guessed each one right with the exception of one or two. The boss knows her friends! There was a good turn out and everyone had a wonderful time.
On Sunday we celebrated my nephew's second birthday at a Japanese restaurant (Yuki). And then had "the Artist and Mida" (BIL & SIL) over to watch the Super Bowl while the kids played "cops and robbers".
It was an exhausting, albeit fun weekend!
I do want to make mention that though we were unable to be there, we celebrated the birth of our newest addition to the family, Gianna Marie. She is the newest daughter to our cousins Angie and Jason (and little sister to brother Christian). Angie delivered during the huge ice storm that took place in Indiana last week. Congratulations!
